To make a song with AI, write a short creative brief, develop lyrics and a structure, generate several song drafts, revise the strongest one, then export and master the result. Use a songwriting tool for the words, a full-song generator for the arrangement and vocals, and a mastering tool only after the mix is settled.
What You Need Before You Start
Choose a subject, a point of view, a mood, and one detail that makes the song yours. Decide whether you want vocals or an instrumental, and whether you plan to finish in a browser or continue in a digital audio workstation (DAW). Keep the brief concrete: “a reflective, mid-tempo song about leaving a familiar place, with a restrained verse and a bigger final chorus” gives you more to steer than “make it emotional.”
- Write down a one-sentence premise and the intended listener feeling.
- Pick a rough structure, such as verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, final chorus.
- Gather only audio references you have permission to use, and avoid imitating a real person’s voice without consent.
How to Make a Song With AI Step by Step
- Turn the idea into a brief. In RHYMEBOOK, enter the theme, mood, genre direction, and intended song structure. Its songwriting workspace supports those kinds of lyric generation inputs. If you already have lyrics, use SongIntent to develop the idea with lyric, melody, beat, and structure controls. Choose one tool for this stage rather than generating competing drafts in both.
- Draft and shape the lyrics. Ask RHYMEBOOK for a verse and chorus around the premise, then edit the lines yourself for meaning, singability, and a consistent point of view. Its rhyme tools include perfect, near, and multisyllabic rhymes. Alternatively, SongIntent supports line-level revisions and cadence capture; use those to revise awkward lines while preserving your intended phrasing. Save your own clean lyric draft before moving on.
- Generate a first full song. In Suno, provide the lyrics and a concise description of the sound, vocal character, mood, and structure you want. Generate alternatives and listen for the parts that matter to your premise: intelligible lyrics, a memorable chorus, a useful arrangement, and a vocal delivery that fits the point of view. Write down the specific change needed, such as “shorter intro” or “less busy verse,” before prompting again. Avoid asking for several unrelated changes in a single revision.
- Repair the song section by section. Use Suno’s editing, remixing, extensions, or section replacement to address a weak passage while keeping the sections that work. With Eleven Music, use section editing or inpainting for a localized change. Keep the strongest take of each section and check that transitions still sound intentional after edits.
- Export for the next stage. If you need separate parts for a DAW mix, Suno’s stem export is available, but its Free Plan does not include stem separation. Eleven Music offers stems and MP3/WAV exports; check your plan before relying on a particular export. Udio can extend or transform a track and refine it in Sessions, but audio, video, and stem downloads are disabled during its stated transition period, so it may not suit a workflow that requires downloadable files.
- Balance the track before mastering. Listen from start to finish on the device you normally create with, including headphones or speakers you trust. Check vocal clarity, abrupt edits, clipping, and whether the ending feels complete. If you exported stems, rebalance the vocal and instruments in your DAW before making a final stereo file. iZotope Ozone is a DAW mastering suite with stem EQ and support for AU, AAX, and VST3 plug-in formats; it is suited to a DAW-based finishing workflow.
- Master the finished mix. Apply mastering only after the arrangement and balance are settled. Ozone offers mastering tools within a DAW workflow. For browser-based stereo mastering, Waves Online Mastering accepts a stereo track and provides selectable styles, reference matching, and WAV or MP3 downloads. Choose one route and compare the mastered result with your unmastered file at a similar listening level.
- Save the project and document your contribution. Keep the brief, lyric drafts, prompts, edits, and exported versions together. Note which lyrics, melodies, performances, or arrangement decisions you made yourself. This record helps you understand what changed during production and may matter if you later register a work that includes AI-generated material.

What to Check Before You Publish
Review each platform’s current terms for the plan you used, including commercial use, downloads, and any limits on the way you intend to release the track. Suno’s Free Plan does not include commercial rights. Eleven Music’s free plan is for personal use, and its commercial rights vary by plan and exclude film, TV, and studio games. Do not assume that a generated song, voice, reference recording, or sample is cleared for every release. Get consent before using someone’s voice or source audio, and check the relevant service terms.

Final Checks Before Export
- Listen for mispronounced or unintelligible words and repair them before mastering.
- Check that edits do not introduce abrupt changes in timing, tone, or background sound.
- Keep a copy of the unmastered mix and the final master, along with the lyrics and project notes.
- Confirm the export format and release rights against the current plan and platform terms.
