I can’t responsibly rank ten specific The Far Side hunting comics without verified panels and captions. The available evidence supports the strip’s recurring hunter–prey reversal, but not a reliable list of ten cartoons or their order. Here’s what can be established—and where to check the cartoons themselves.
Why hunting fits The Far Side
Gary Larson’s single-panel comic ran in newspapers from 1980 to 1995, according to The Far Side’s official About page. Hunting provides a natural setup for its reversals: animals can become the observers or pursuers, while people accustomed to seeing themselves as hunters become the prey.

In a scholarly discussion of Larson’s proverbial cartoons, Stephen D. Winick describes a deer example in which deer treat a hunter as prey, and a duck example in which a hunter has set up a duck blind inside a duck’s home. Those descriptions illustrate the role reversal, but they are not a verified roster of individual cartoons or their exact captions. See Winick’s discussion.
Why a ten-cartoon ranking can’t be verified here
A useful ranked list needs identifiable panels and their captions, checked against an authorized archive or printed collection. The available source material does not establish ten distinct hunting cartoons, their original dates or identifiers, or a defensible order. Supplying ten entries anyway would risk inventing or misidentifying the cartoons.
#1 Best Overall
The ranking criteria that best fit the subject are how completely a cartoon reverses hunter and prey, how clearly and surprisingly the image sets up that reversal, and how sharply the caption delivers the joke. These are editorial criteria, not a ranking attributed to Larson.

Official site
The Far Side’s official site offers changing selections of classic cartoons and themed collections. It is an authorized place to explore the work, but the available information does not establish that every hunting cartoon is indexed or searchable there.

Complete collection
Andrews McMeel Publishing describes The Complete Far Side as containing every syndicated cartoon—over 4,000—in approximately chronological order. The publisher also says it includes more than 1,100 cartoons that had not appeared in a book previously. These are publisher figures; the product page does not identify which cartoons concern hunting.
Gallery anthologies
The Far Side Gallery is a separate anthology series. It offers another collected-edition route, but its publisher page does not establish that it contains a complete selection of hunting cartoons.
