American Patchwork & Quilting’s spring roundup lists 18 free projects, including both table runners and table toppers. The designs range from pieced flowers, butterflies, pinwheels and stars to appliquéd baskets, scrap-friendly work, floral hexagons and bird motifs. The page was updated February 4, 2026.
What’s in the 18-pattern roundup?
The list is a mix of table runners, table toppers and a mini quilt, so not every project is a square centerpiece. The project names below follow American Patchwork & Quilting’s roundup. Its descriptions identify the construction or motif for some designs, but not every listing has a detailed description in the roundup.

How to choose a project
Start with the shape you want on the table, then compare the project’s technique and fabric approach. A runner gives you a long, narrow layout; a topper is generally a more compact centerpiece. The roundup includes both, so check each pattern’s finished dimensions before choosing a spot for it.
#1 Best Overall
- Pattern only
- Fabric not included
- Package Length of the Product: 0.15"
- Package Height of the Product: 8.5"
Choose by construction
- Piecing: Tulip Time uses pieced flower blocks, while Butterfly Garden uses pieced butterflies. Sunny All Around starts with a pinwheel block and adds borders.
- Appliqué: Bright Blooms adds wool appliquéd flowers; Spring Baskets appliqués colorful baskets.
- Scraps or embellishments: Bright Bits is specifically described as scrap-using. Button Blooms incorporates rickrack and buttons.
Choose by motif and palette
For a floral look, consider the flower-focused projects, including Bright Blooms, Tulip Time and Vivid Hexagon. For a different spring motif, Butterfly Garden and Avian feature butterflies and birds, respectively. Vivid Hexagon is the one described as pairing floral hexagons with a solid background; Bright Bits is a natural candidate if you want to use scraps already on hand.

There is no single supply kit established for all 18 projects. Materials depend on the selected pattern and its construction. A separate spring topper example lists fabric, embroidery thread, fusible fleece or low-loft batting, fusible web and bias tape; another seasonal topper example describes fusible appliqué and quilting. Those examples illustrate how much requirements can vary, but they are not a universal list for the AllPeopleQuilt roundup.

- Simplicity pattern includes everything needed for a well set table with instructions for (7) sewing templates. Patterns include chair cushions, tablecloths, place mats, runners, and napkins.
- Each dining accent piece comes in one size only. Runners and tablecloths have instructions for various lengths depending on table size.
- Table runner comes in two different styles with matching place mats. Tablecloth pattern can also be made to match these accent pieces.
- Washable fabrics such as cotton and broadcloth are recommended, as pieces will be used where food and drink is served.
- For patterned material, purchase extra to line up seams with stripes, polka dots, or other designs.
- Open the specific pattern and read its materials list and instructions before buying fabric or notions.
- Check the finished size and any stated fabric quantities, notions, batting or backing requirements.
- Match supplies to the method: piecing and appliqué can call for different materials, and embellishments such as buttons or rickrack are project-specific.
Rotary cutters, cutting mats and quilting rulers are common optional tools for quilt work, but the roundup does not establish them as requirements for every project. Follow the chosen pattern’s own guidance.
