Wooden beads can become polished home décor, seasonal ornaments, useful table accessories, and wearable gifts with only cord, wire, paint, or glue. The 25 projects below are organized by finished use and construction method so you can choose a quick stringing project, a shaped wire design, or a more involved hanging piece. Most start with unfinished beads; leave them natural for a quiet farmhouse look or add acrylic color, ribbon, jute, yarn, and tassels when you want a seasonal palette.

Roundups from Our Crafty Mom (2026) and Dollar Tree Craft (2023) document wooden-bead ideas spanning décor, gifts, jewelry, garlands, curtains, wall hangings, ornaments, and seasonal pieces. The right project depends less on the bead itself than on how you assemble it.
- Stringing: Thread beads on jute, ribbon, elastic, cord, or yarn. Garlands, jewelry, key chains, and napkin holders are the simplest starting points.
- Wiring: Floral wire lets you bend a strand into a wreath or other shape. It adds a shaping and wire-closing step.
- Gluing: Hot glue can hold fixed embellishments such as greenery, ribbon, or facial details. It is optional for many projects.
- Painting: Unfinished wood is attractive on its own. Paint only the beads or sections that need color, and let them dry completely before assembly.
Garlands and mini wreaths are the easiest entry points. Curtains, mobiles, and large wall hangings require more measuring and secure mounting because their finished weight and span vary with the bead count.

Materials and bead sizes
Use unfinished wooden beads as the base supply. Practical sizes documented by The Savvy Sparrow (2024) range from 14 mm to 25 mm:
| Use | Useful bead size | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Light strands and jewelry | 14–16 mm | Keeps bracelets, necklaces, key chains, and small hangings from becoming bulky. |
| Wreath ornaments | 15–20 mm | Large enough to read as a ring while remaining light enough for a tree or gift package. |
| Statement garlands | 20–25 mm | Creates a substantial visual rhythm on a mantel, shelf, or centerpiece. |
Pair beads with jute twine, elastic cord, ribbon, chunky yarn, or 18–20 gauge floral wire. Basic tools are scissors, wire cutters, a large-eye craft needle, acrylic paint and brushes, markers, and hot-glue supplies. Choose a cord that passes through the bead holes without forcing them; test one bead before cutting the full length.

Home décor projects
1. Classic farmhouse bead garland
Thread 20–25 mm natural beads onto jute, leaving a short tail at each end for a knot or loop. Drape the strand over a mantel, shelf, or tray. The unfinished wood supplies the neutral finish; a single painted bead can act as an accent without changing the overall style.
2. Two-size layered garland
Alternate 15 mm and 20–25 mm beads for a varied rhythm, or make two separate strands and layer them. Keep the smaller strand slightly shorter so both lines remain visible when draped.
3. Painted seasonal garland
Paint selected beads in a holiday or seasonal palette, allow every surface to dry fully, then string them. Use repeating blocks of color rather than painting every bead if you want the wood grain to remain part of the design.
4. Tassel-ended mantel garland
Make a basic 20–25 mm garland and tie chunky-yarn or jute tassels to both ends. Trim the tassels evenly after they are attached so the piece hangs symmetrically.

5. Beaded vase wrap
String 14–20 mm beads on flexible cord and wrap the strand around a vase or crock. Secure the ends behind the vessel; do not tighten so much that the container is stressed or difficult to lift.
6. Beaded candle or centerpiece ring
Create a closed loop sized to the outside of a candleholder or centerpiece vessel. A cord loop is sufficient for a removable ring; wire gives a firmer shape. Keep the wood away from an open flame and use the ring only as an exterior accent.
7. Rainbow bead wall hanging
Paint rows of beads in graduated rainbow colors, string each row separately, and attach the rows to a dowel or sturdy horizontal support. Measure the drop of each row before tying so the curve is deliberate rather than accidental.
8. Beaded plant-hanger accent
Thread beads onto the visible cords of a plant hanger, spacing them near the pot or at the junction where the cords meet. Check that the added beads do not interfere with the hanger’s load-bearing knots.

Cut several equal lengths of cord, mark identical bead spacing, and tie each strand to a header or rod. This is more time-consuming than a garland because every row must be measured and the mounting hardware must carry the combined weight.
10. Beaded napkin holder
String a short line of 14–20 mm beads and close it into a loop that slips over a rolled napkin. Leave enough clearance for fabric thickness; the ring should hold the roll without crushing it.

11. Beaded trivet or table accent
Join larger 20–25 mm beads into a flat loop or linked shape. Arrange the beads so the object sits level. Use it under a room-temperature serving piece or as a centerpiece accent; unfinished wood has no standardized heat-resistance rating.
12. Bead-decorated photo or wall frame
Arrange 14–20 mm beads around the outer edge of a plain frame and attach them with hot glue. Dry-fit the pattern first, especially at corners, then glue a few beads at a time so spacing stays consistent.

14. Mini bead wreath ornament
The Wise Mom Blogger specifies 12–20 wood beads and 8–15 inches of 18–20 gauge wire per ornament. Thread the beads onto the wire, curve the strand into a circle, twist the wire ends securely, and form a dedicated hanging loop. The exact bead count depends on bead diameter and the desired opening.
15. Holiday bead wreath with greenery
Make the same wired bead ring, then add a small greenery sprig or ribbon bow with glue or a secondary tie. Keep embellishments light and position the hanging loop at the top before decorating.
16. Bead-and-ribbon gift topper
Thread a few 14–20 mm beads onto ribbon and tie the strand around a wrapped gift. Leave long enough tails for a bow, and use a bead color that echoes the wrapping rather than competing with it.

String 14–20 mm beads on cord or ribbon, center the pattern, and finish with an adjustable tie or suitable clasp. A few larger beads can serve as focal points while smaller beads reduce weight near the neck.
Step-by-step: a reliable garland method
- Plan the pattern. Lay out the beads in order and decide whether the strand will be natural, two-tone, or seasonal.
- Measure the cord. Add extra length for end knots, loops, or tassels. Test the cord through one bead before cutting.
- Prepare paint first. Paint any beads that need color and let them dry fully on all sides.
- Thread the beads. A large-eye needle helps with jute, ribbon, or yarn. Slide beads gently to avoid fraying the cord.
- Secure both ends. Tie firm knots, add loops, and trim only after the strand hangs as intended.
- Check the finished piece. Look for loose beads, uneven spacing, or a knot that could pull through a hole before placing it on furniture.
Step-by-step: wired wreath ornaments
- Cut wire safely. Cut 8–15 inches of 18–20 gauge floral wire, as specified for the wreath ornament format by The Wise Mom Blogger (2026), and point the cut ends away from your hands.
- Thread 12–20 beads. The required count varies with bead size and the opening you want.
- Shape the circle. Bend the loaded wire into a round ring without sharp kinks.
- Close the ring. Twist the wire ends together securely and tuck or trim the sharp tail with wire cutters.
- Add the hanger. Form a separate loop at the top; do not rely on an unsecured bead or a loose twist.
- Embellish after shaping. Attach greenery, ribbon, or paint details only when the ring is stable.
Painting, finishing, and safety
Natural wood is the simplest finish and suits minimalist or farmhouse styling. Acrylic paint and markers add color; paint only clean, dry beads and allow full drying before stringing. Ribbon, jute, and tassels add texture without requiring every bead to be painted.
- Handle wire cutters carefully and bend or cover sharp wire ends.
- Use hot glue only for fixed embellishments, and keep hot glue away from skin and heat sources.
- Close every ornament wire or cord securely and add a dedicated hanging loop.
- Keep wooden bead pieces away from open flames, water exposure, and outdoor conditions unless the materials are specifically protected.
- These tutorials describe materials and assembly choices, not standardized durability tests; inspect heavily handled pieces periodically.
Basic supply kit
A practical starter kit contains unfinished wooden beads for crafts in 14–25 mm sizes, 18–20 gauge floral wire, acrylic craft paint and brushes, jute, ribbon, elastic cord or chunky yarn, scissors, wire cutters, a large-eye needle, and optional hot-glue supplies. With those materials, you can make every project in this list while changing only the bead size, pattern, and finishing details.
