This small 3D-printable fidget makes a Super Mario tune without electronics: drag its finger tab across a row of tuned, flexible tines and each tine plucks one note. The melody is built into the tine sequence, while your hand controls the tempo. It is a clever mechanical music object, but the available project coverage does not establish a printer, filament, dimensions, print profile or assembly procedure.

How the musical fidget works
Hackaday’s Donald Papp describes the project, designed by kida, as a musical fidget. You pull a tab—effectively a small striker—across the top of the device. As it travels, it catches and releases vertical tines one after another, making them twang.

Each tine is tuned by the height of its thicker section. That geometry determines the note, so the ordered row of tines contains a preset melody rather than a playable keyboard. Moving the striker slowly or quickly changes the timing and tempo, but not the notes in the sequence.

The design is split into two halves so more notes can fit into a compact object. That arrangement also makes it possible to revise the tine sequence for another tune. The creator’s linked collection reportedly includes non-game melodies and guidance for making new versions.
What playing it feels like
Your finger supplies the rhythm
There is no motor, speaker or battery doing the work. The sound comes from the striker releasing each tine, and your hand determines how evenly the notes arrive. A steady pull produces a more recognizable tune; a faster or uneven pull changes the musical feel.

A table can act as a sounding surface
Hackaday notes that pressing or holding the assembled fidget against a tabletop can make it louder. The surface functions as a sounding board, coupling the small vibrating structure to a larger object. That is an acoustic aid, not an electronic amplification system.
