For a fall refresh, consider deep mahogany and espresso, earthy greens, buttery yellow, retro orange and clay reds, or aqua and blue-green accents. These are five practical directions drawn from current paint-brand forecasts and fall palette coverage—not a measured ranking or a consensus about what everyone should choose. The examples below keep each shade tied to the brand that named it.
How to read these fall color trends
The examples combine 2026 annual forecasts with a fall-specific paint collection and autumn palette coverage. PPG publishes four 2026 trend palettes, and Sherwin-Williams describes four forecast palettes, so there is no single industry-wide seasonal list. Treat these colors as starting points, then choose according to your room, finishes, and light.
The evidence here is from US-oriented brands and coverage. Names, product systems, and availability can differ by country and retailer; digital and printed representations are not exact substitutes for paint samples. Compare shades by undertone (warm or cool), depth (light or dark), saturation (muted or vivid), intended use, and appearance in your actual room.

1. Deep mahogany, espresso, and charcoal
For a grounding, darker look, compare warm brown-reds with near-black shades that carry brown or charcoal notes. PPG named Warm Mahogany its 2026 Color of the Year. Benjamin Moore named Silhouette AF-655 its 2026 Color of the Year, describing it as a mix of rich espresso hues with subtle charcoal notes.
These are brand-specific examples, not interchangeable formulas. Before committing to a dark color across a whole room, assess how its depth and undertone sit alongside the room’s existing floors, trim, and furnishings. A sample in place will show whether the shade reads warm, cool, or nearly black under your lighting.

2. Earthy and retro greens
Greens span a wide range, from vintage-inspired grassy tones to deep, blue-leaning shades. Krylon’s 2026 Fall Color Collection includes Spring Grass, described as a vintage-inspired green. PPG’s 2026 palettes include Quaking Grass, Deep Emerald, Mallard Green, and Walden Pond; Farrow & Ball’s autumn palette coverage also highlights organic greens.
Think of these as a family of options, not matches across brands. A lighter or more muted green may feel gentler on a larger surface, while a deeper green can make a stronger statement. Compare samples with nearby wood, stone, and fabrics to see whether their undertones work together.

3. Soft buttery yellow
Krylon’s fall collection includes Meringue, which the brand describes as a soft, buttery yellow with nostalgic warmth. It offers a lighter counterpoint to the deeper browns, greens, and reds in seasonal palettes.
Try a yellow sample beside fixed finishes and furnishings before choosing a project. Its warmth and brightness can shift noticeably with the light in the space, so check it at different times of day rather than relying on a screen image.

4. Retro orange and clay-like reds
For a more saturated fall accent, Krylon’s collection includes Pumpkin Orange. PPG’s 2026 trend palettes include warm reds and clay shades such as Red Clay and Spiced Cider. The names refer to colors in their respective brands’ palettes, not to a shared standard.
If you like orange but do not want it to dominate a room, use it on a smaller project or as an accent. 5. Aqua, blue, and green-blue accents
Aqua and blue-green shades offer a less conventional route into an autumn palette. Krylon’s Beach Glass is a cool aqua in its fall collection. PPG’s 2026 palettes include blue-green colors, and Farrow & Ball’s autumn palette coverage discusses mixing blues and greens with seasonal reds and yellows.
Use these hues to bring a cooler note into a palette with warm clay, yellow, or brown tones. Because blue-green shades can vary from cool aqua to deeper green, test the specific color alongside the other finishes it will share space with.
