In an August 2024 forecast, interior designers pointed to five broad paint directions for 2025: deep greens, warm browns and terracottas, yellow, bright red, and green limewash finishes. These are designer predictions—not five exact paint colors or proof that a single palette became universal. The named examples include Farrow & Ball Dorset Cream, Sherwin-Williams Evergreen Fog, and Benjamin Moore Scenic Drive.
What the designers forecast for 2025
The predictions below came from an August 9, 2024, US-oriented design article. Each describes a color family or finish, so use the named paints as reference points rather than treating them as a definitive list of five shades.
1. Deep, moody greens
Margie Kaercher, founder of Hearth & Honey Homes, expected deep greens to suit interest in cozy, nature-inspired rooms. She suggested color-drenching—using a related deep green across multiple room surfaces—and bringing in natural wood and varied textures to add dimension. The approach creates a more enveloping effect than using green only on one wall.

2. Browns, rusty reds, and terracottas
Callie Blanks, founder of Callie Blanks Interiors, said she was already seeing these warm shades and expected them to continue. For a color-drenched room, she recommended light natural linen in drapery or bedding. Tonal furniture and accessories can also work, with slight shifts in shade helping the room avoid a flat, single-note look.

3. Yellow
Meghan Jay, founder of Meghan Jay Design, pointed to Farrow & Ball Dorset Cream as a subdued yellow example, describing it as warm without being overly saturated or citrus-like. If a large area of yellow feels like too much, try it first in a small detail such as a lamp or throw.
4. Bright reds
Jay also anticipated more bright red in interiors. Applying it to trim is one way to make the color feel deliberate while drawing attention to architectural details, rather than committing to red across every wall.

5. Green limewash and other organic-looking finishes
Taylor Fusco, founder of Tay Fusco Design, said she was receiving more requests for organic-looking finishes, including green limewash and Roman clay. She named Sherwin-Williams Evergreen Fog and Benjamin Moore Scenic Drive as green examples, and suggested light oak or blush and pink as possible complements. Limewash is a finish direction, not simply another precise hue on a paint-chip list.

Some paint-company forecasts for 2025 featured related color families, but they came from different markets and do not prove that the designers’ predictions became widespread trends. Dulux Australia’s forecast included yellow-greens, terracotta, biscuit yellow, and deep olive shades. Sherwin-Williams’ US Color Capsule included the earthy brown Grounded, vibrant yellow-green Chartreuse, and golden Bosc Pear. These palettes provide context, not a market-wide measure of what homeowners chose.

Choose an application before choosing a shade
The designers’ suggestions range from a small accent to color-drenching or a finish with visible texture. Narrow your shortlist by deciding how much of the room the color will occupy, what nearby materials it needs to work with, and whether the goal is a quiet shift or a strong focal point.
- For a full-room treatment: Consider deep green or a warm brown, rusty red, or terracotta. Natural wood, varied textures, or light linen can help create contrast.
- For a low-commitment first step: Try yellow in a small accent before using it over a larger area.
- For architectural emphasis: Use a bright red on trim to highlight details.
- For a textured, organic look: Compare green limewash or Roman clay with standard painted surfaces. The cited forecast did not provide a performance comparison between these finishes and ordinary paint.
Sample paint in the room where it will go
A shade can look different across rooms and under different light sources. Dulux recommends sample pots and movable A4 color stickers so you can view a candidate in its intended setting; Sherwin-Williams lists paint samples and peel-and-stick samples. Compare shortlisted shades on the actual wall or with a movable sample in the room, checking them in the lighting conditions you normally use before committing to a full application.

When comparing options, look at hue family, depth and saturation, the intended surface, nearby wood or textiles, and how the sample reads in the room’s light. The forecasts offer design inspiration, not objective performance rankings between brands or products.
