Benjamin Moore’s U.S. kitchen-cabinet guide identifies six popular cabinet colors: Chantilly Lace OC-65, Seapearl OC-19, Baby Fawn OC-15, Stonington Gray HC-170, Hale Navy HC-154 and Kendall Charcoal HC-166. They make a useful shortlist, not a ranking or a survey of designer preferences. The guide does not attribute the selections to named designers, so the “designers swear by” framing should not be read as a verified endorsement.
Six Benjamin Moore cabinet colors to consider
Benjamin Moore groups these shades as popular kitchen cabinet colors. Their names and codes identify the paints, but they cannot tell you exactly how a color will look beside your counters, flooring, backsplash and fixtures.
Chantilly Lace OC-65
A classic white and one of the manufacturer’s popular cabinet whites. It can suit a bright, open look, but assess its appearance in your kitchen rather than relying on a screen or a general description.
Seapearl OC-19
Benjamin Moore describes Seapearl as a cool gray on its broader cabinet-color guide. Try a sample against the room’s fixed finishes to see whether that character works in your space.
#1 Best Overall
- The ultimate acrylic cabinet paint for a “factory-like” finish when refurbishing kitchen and bathroom cabinets, shelving, furniture, trim, and crown molding.
- Delivers an ultra smooth, durable finish.
- Super adhesion to hard-to-coat surfaces without primer.
- Durable satin cabinet finish that resists chipping, scuffing, food stains, grease & water.
- 350 - 450 square foot coverage per gallon.
Baby Fawn OC-15
Baby Fawn appears on the popular kitchen-cabinet list, but the guide does not provide a detailed undertone description. Use an in-room sample to judge its relationship to your counters and other finishes instead of assuming a particular cast.
Stonington Gray HC-170
This gray is also on the kitchen-cabinet shortlist. The guide does not specify how it reads in different lighting conditions, so compare it with the fixed finishes in your own kitchen.
Rank #2
- The ultimate acrylic cabinet paint for a “factory-like” finish when refurbishing kitchen and bathroom cabinets, shelving, furniture, trim, and crown molding.
- Delivers an ultra smooth, durable finish.
- Super adhesion to hard-to-coat surfaces without primer.
- Durable satin cabinet finish that resists chipping, scuffing, food stains, grease & water.
- 87 – 112 square foot coverage per quart.
Hale Navy HC-154
For a stronger contrast, Benjamin Moore presents Hale Navy with Glacier White as a bold wall-and-cabinet pairing. That is a manufacturer-proposed combination, not a guarantee that it will suit every room.
Kendall Charcoal HC-166
Kendall Charcoal appears on both Benjamin Moore’s popular kitchen-cabinet list and its broader popular kitchen-color list. The manufacturer says dark colors generally can hide dirt better than lighter ones; that is qualitative guidance, not a measured result for Kendall Charcoal specifically.
Rank #3
- The ultimate acrylic cabinet paint for a “factory-like” finish when refurbishing kitchen and bathroom cabinets, shelving, furniture, trim, and crown molding.
- Delivers an ultra smooth, durable finish.
- Super adhesion to hard-to-coat surfaces without primer.
- Durable semi-gloss cabinet finish that resists chipping, scuffing, food stains, grease & water.
- 350 - 450 square foot coverage per gallon
How to choose among the six
Start with finishes that are staying
Compare samples with your countertops, backsplash, flooring and fixtures. Pay particular attention to undertones where the cabinet color meets the countertop; a color that looks appealing on its own may not coordinate with a fixed surface. Benjamin Moore recommends testing cabinet colors alongside other finishes.
Choose the effect you want
Whites and off-whites are a classic direction; gray can offer a neutral alternative, while navy or charcoal creates more contrast. Benjamin Moore’s broader cabinet guidance also features green, wood tones and black, so the six-color list is not the only direction the manufacturer endorses. Its other examples include Chantilly Lace OC-65 and White Dove OC-17 as popular cabinet whites, and Aegean Teal 2136-40 and Char Brown 2137-20 as more saturated options.
Rank #4
- The ultimate acrylic cabinet paint for a “factory-like” finish when refurbishing kitchen and bathroom cabinets, shelving, furniture, trim, and crown molding.
- Delivers an ultra smooth, durable finish.
- Super adhesion to hard-to-coat surfaces without primer.
- Durable semi-gloss cabinet finish that resists chipping, scuffing, food stains, grease & water.
- 87 – 112 square foot coverage per quart
Check the color in your kitchen’s light
Benjamin Moore advises sampling colors in the kitchen, especially whites, whose appearance can shift with the light. Look at the sample at different times of day. If a white looks too warm in your room, the manufacturer suggests trying cooler off-whites; if whites look too gray or blue, it suggests warmer off-whites.
Pick a sheen as well as a color
Benjamin Moore identifies satin, semi-gloss and high-gloss as cabinet finish options that can highlight details. Consider how the sheen will look with your cabinet style and the surrounding surfaces before settling on the paint specification.

Paint and preparation guidance
Benjamin Moore recommends its Advance Interior paint for cabinet projects and describes it as producing a hard, furniture-quality finish. This is the manufacturer’s guidance, not an independent comparative test. Follow the product’s current label and preparation instructions for the surface and application method you plan to use.
Benjamin Moore also advises sampling before painting; its white-cabinet guide says color chips are available through local stores. Check with a local store for current sample and chip availability.
