Is Procreate available for Windows 10?
No official Windows version is listed by Procreate. Its product page presents Procreate for iPad and App Store distribution, while the handbook describes an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil workflow: Procreate Handbook. A Windows PC cannot install the iPad edition directly.

An APK is an Android package, not a normal Windows installer. An EXE claiming to be official Procreate is not supported by Procreate’s download channels. Avoid “portable,” cracked, modded, activated, or emulator packages, and never disable Windows Defender or SmartScreen to install one. Domains such as procreatewindows.com and procreate-x.zendesk.com are not evidence of an official release.
1. Krita: best overall free alternative
Krita is the safest default for serious digital painting, illustration, textures, concept art, and basic 2D animation. It is free and open source, with a strong brush engine, layers, masks, stabilizers, selections, blending, vector tools, and an animation workspace.

- Windows support includes Windows 8.1 or newer, including Windows 10.

Its uncluttered interface feels closer to a dedicated sketchbook than a full production suite. 3. Concepts: best for an infinite canvas
Get Concepts from the official site or Microsoft Store
Concepts is designed for brainstorming, architecture, product design, diagrams, storyboards, and notes. Its free tier includes vector-hybrid brushes and tools, COPIC, HSL, and RGB color wheels, five layers, an infinite canvas, unlimited drawings, and basic JPG export.
The free version is not a complete raster-painting replacement: five layers and JPG-only basic export can restrict finished artwork. The official page showed Concepts Pro at $4.99 per month or $29.99 per year on August 18, 2026; pricing can change.

4. FireAlpaca: best lightweight free app
FireAlpaca suits low-spec computers, beginners, simple illustrations, and basic comic work. Its appeal is a lightweight installation and approachable tools such as brushes, layers, stabilization, and comic-oriented features.
It is less capable than Krita for advanced painting, masks, color management, animation, and elaborate layer workflows, and its interface can feel dated. Check the developer’s current page for exact Windows 10 requirements and version details before installing.
5. MediBang Paint: best for free comics and manga
MediBang Paint is aimed at comic and manga beginners who want panels, tones, brushes, and access to projects across devices. It can be a practical free starting point for page-based artwork.
Cloud or account features may affect privacy and workflow, while advertising, premium resources, or plan limits can apply. Confirm current Windows support and terms on the official site; do not describe every feature as permanently free without checking those terms.

6. Clip Studio Paint: best paid alternative for comics

Clip Studio Paint is the strongest choice for manga, comics, character illustration, inking, lettering, and animation. The Windows and macOS purchase page lists PRO Ver. 5.0 for illustration and character art, EX Ver. 5.0 with additional comic and animation features, perpetual-license options for version 5.0, a separate Update Pass, and 10 GB of cloud storage.
It is not a permanently free download. PRO and EX have different capabilities, and licensing is more involved than Krita’s. The purchase page’s price fields were not reliably rendered in the supplied information, so check the live page rather than publishing an unverified dollar amount.

Hardware determines how close Windows feels to Procreate
A mouse and ordinary laptop will not reproduce an iPad-and-Apple-Pencil workflow. Better results come from a Windows 10 2-in-1 with an active pen, a pen tablet such as a Wacom, Huion, or XP-Pen, or a screen-based pen display.
Check pressure sensitivity, tilt, palm rejection, latency, driver compatibility, calibration, and shortcut buttons. Install the tablet manufacturer’s driver, then configure Windows Ink or the driver’s compatible mode. Map buttons to undo, redo, brush size, and pan, and test pressure on a small canvas.
Moving artwork between Procreate and Windows
Native .procreate files are not universal interchange files. On the iPad, export layered work as PSD when possible; PNG, JPEG, TIFF, or PDF can work for flattened or presentation output. PSD usually preserves the most useful layer structure, but compatibility is not guaranteed for every brush, blend mode, adjustment, text object, or animation feature.
Download safely
- Open the developer’s official domain or a clearly identified Microsoft Store listing.
- Confirm the installer supports Windows 10 and that your system is 64-bit where required.
- Keep Windows Defender and SmartScreen enabled.
- Install the current stable release, then connect and configure your tablet driver.
- Test pressure, tilt, palm rejection, undo, layers, and export before starting a major project.
If a normal download fails, use the developer’s own alternate installer or Microsoft Store version where offered, update the tablet driver, restart the app after changing Windows Ink settings, and check whether antivirus quarantined the installer. Do not replace it with a third-party mirror, emulator, APK, crack, or “Procreate PC” package.
The Bottom Line
For a legitimate, no-cost Windows 10 replacement, install Krita from krita.org. Choose Sketchbook for simplicity, Concepts for an infinite canvas, MediBang Paint or Clip Studio Paint for comics, and PaintTool SAI for focused line work—but do not mistake any unofficial installer for Procreate itself.
