A Sentro can knit tubes or flat panels, but a pattern’s needle count, knitting mode, yarn feed, and finishing steps all affect the result. The official Sentro project guide provides instructions for four tube-mode projects; a third-party video tutorial offers three more project leads. Check each source’s current access and instructions before starting, since not every listing in pattern catalogs is free.

Choose the right machine and mode
The official Sentro catalog lists 22-, 32-, 40-, and 48-needle machines. The manufacturer’s current tube-mode guide names 40- and 48-pin machines for its four projects. It describes 48-pin models for adult beanies and standard tube tops or wide scarves, 40-pin models for child or teen beanies and slimmer projects, and 22-pin models for smaller accessories such as scrunchies, headbands, and pet scarves. These are manufacturer recommendations, not independently tested sizing rules.
| Needle count | Manufacturer guidance in the dossier | Before adapting a pattern |
|---|---|---|
| 22 | Smaller accessories | Do not assume a pattern for a larger machine will fit; check its intended circumference and construction. |
| 32 | A 32-needle manual distinguishes tube knitting from panel knitting using a mode switch. | Confirm whether the pattern uses tube or panel mode and follow the manual for your model. |
| 40 | Child or teen beanies and slimmer projects, according to the manufacturer. | Use the source’s sizing instructions; row count alone does not determine fit. |
| 48 | Adult beanies and standard tube tops or wide scarves, according to the manufacturer. | Check the pattern’s yarn and tension requirements as well as its needle count. |
Tube mode makes a continuous round tube; panel mode makes a flat piece. Check the pattern and your exact machine manual before you begin. Needle count and yarn tension influence the fabric and its finished circumference.
Materials and setup
For the official guide’s examples, the manufacturer names worsted-weight (#4 medium) or light bulky yarn with a smooth feed, scrap or waste yarn, a tapestry or darning needle, a 4–5 mm crochet hook, scissors, and a row counter or manual counting method. Its middle-tension recommendation for standard worsted yarn is a starting point for those examples, not a universal setting for every yarn or model.

- Check that the pattern specifies your machine size and whether it uses tube or panel mode.
- Read the manual for your exact model. For the 32-needle model, the manual describes the mode switch and advises a loose, steady yarn feed, machine stabilization, and slow, even cranking.
- Test a short sample with your chosen yarn and adjust tension as needed rather than assuming one setting will work for every yarn.
- Gather the finishing supplies the project calls for, such as waste yarn, a tapestry needle, or a crochet hook.
- Crank steadily and do not force the handle. The manual cautions that excessive force or speed can cause damage or dropped stitches.
Finding free instructions responsibly
The official guide and the third-party video are useful starting points for the projects listed above. A circular-machine pattern catalog can provide additional discovery leads for accessories, but its listings include paid patterns. Confirm that the specific instructions are accessible without payment and that they match your machine before calling a pattern free or beginning the project.

What can I make on a Sentro knitting machine?
The official Sentro guide gives examples of a reversible beanie, cat-ear beanie, tube scarf, and halter tube top. A third-party tutorial also covers an infinity scarf, split-brim beanie, and mittens. The pattern’s machine size and construction determine whether it suits your model.

- The addi-Express Professional features 22 needles
- Circular knitted items - Ø 10 to 15 cm (4" to 6")
- Plain knitted items - 15 to 20 cm (6" to 8") wide
- You can use nearly all kinds of yarns, recommended yarn thickness 3.5 - 8
- Designed and manufactured in Germany to exacting standards and using finest materials available
Can I use a pattern written for a different Sentro needle count?
Do not assume it will fit. Needle count changes the tube circumference, and yarn tension also affects the finished fabric. Check the pattern’s sizing and machine instructions, and test a sample when adapting a project.
What is the difference between tube mode and panel mode?
Tube mode knits a continuous tube, while panel mode makes a flat piece. The official 32-needle manual describes a mode switch; check your own model’s manual and use the mode required by the pattern.
What yarn should I use?
The official guide names smooth-feed worsted-weight (#4 medium) or light bulky yarn for its examples and recommends testing and adjusting tension. That is guidance for those projects, not a guarantee for every yarn or machine.
Are all patterns in a circular-machine catalog free?
No. The cited accessory catalog includes paid listings as well as a free-instructions listing. Check the specific pattern’s current price and access terms before including or starting it as a free project.
