Adobe After Effects CC 26.0 is installed through the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app—not from a separate After Effects .exe or .dmg file. That matters if you are looking for a direct download: the file Adobe provides for Windows or macOS installs Creative Cloud, which then authenticates your Adobe account and downloads After Effects.
Version 26.0 may no longer appear as the default release because Creative Cloud normally presents the newest compatible version. You can still install it when Adobe keeps that build available under Other versions.
Before downloading After Effects 26.0
After Effects requires an Adobe Creative Cloud membership. Adobe offers a seven-day trial, after which the trial changes to a paid plan unless canceled. There is no current permanent free edition of After Effects.

- You have an Adobe ID and an active Creative Cloud plan or trial.
- Your computer has at least 16 GB of RAM.
- You have at least 8 GB of free storage, plus working space for the installer, cache, and project files.
- Your operating system is compatible with the 26.x release you intend to install.
- You are downloading from Adobe rather than a third-party “cracked” installer.
Install After Effects through Creative Cloud
- Open Adobe’s official After Effects product page and choose Free trial or a paid plan.
- Select Continue, sign in with an Adobe ID, and enter the requested billing information if starting a trial or subscription.
- Choose Get Started or Download After Effects.
- Allow the Creative Cloud desktop application to download and install.
- Open Creative Cloud and select the Apps tab.
- Find After Effects and select Install.
Creative Cloud installs the current compatible release by default. If it installs a newer 26.x build instead of 26.0, use the version-selection method below.

How to select After Effects 26.0
- Open the Creative Cloud desktop app.
- Select Apps.
- Find After Effects in the installed or available apps list.
- Select the three-dot menu beside After Effects.
- Choose Other versions.
- Look for After Effects 26.0 and select Install.
Adobe does not promise that every historical build remains available indefinitely. If 26.0 is absent from Other versions, Creative Cloud cannot normally retrieve it through the standard account interface. Do not substitute an unofficial installer; older installers can contain malware, fail Adobe authentication, or install modified files.
Installing 26.0 alongside another version can be useful when an older project or plug-in depends on that build. In Creative Cloud preferences, leave Remove older versions disabled if you need to retain an existing installation.

- Let the download begin, or select Restart download if it does not start.
- Open
Creative_Cloud_Set-Up.exe. - Follow the setup prompts and sign in.
The Creative Cloud desktop app itself installs in Adobe’s default location; its installer does not provide a normal folder-selection step. You can change the location used for Creative Cloud applications afterward through Account icon > Preferences > Apps > Install location > edit > Done.
Windows compatibility warning
Current After Effects 26.x system requirements list Windows 11 version 24H2, not Windows 10. The 26.0 build may have slightly different release-specific requirements, so check Adobe’s requirements for that exact build before installing it on an older system. Windows 10 compatibility information for After Effects 25.x should not be treated as confirmation that 26.0 is supported.

After Effects also requires an AVX2-capable processor. The current 26.x requirements list at least 16 GB of RAM and a compatible GPU with at least 4 GB of graphics memory. A supported NVIDIA, Intel, AMD, or Windows-on-Arm configuration is required; CUDA itself is not a universal requirement.
macOS installation details
- Open Adobe’s Creative Cloud download page.
- Open the downloaded
Creative_Cloud_Installer.dmg. - Complete the Creative Cloud installation.
- Sign in, open Creative Cloud > Apps, and install After Effects.
- Use Other versions if you need to select 26.0 instead of the newest release.
Current After Effects 26.x requirements list macOS Sonoma 14 as the minimum operating system. They support Apple silicon and compatible Intel Macs. On Apple-silicon Macs, use the native Apple-silicon build. Rosetta is not a supported workaround for current Adobe video applications.

On macOS Ventura and later, keep the Adobe Creative Cloud login item enabled in System Settings > General > Login Items. Disabling it can interfere with Adobe updates, notifications, syncing, and background licensing processes.
Recommended hardware for motion graphics
The minimum specification is enough to install the application, but not necessarily enough for comfortable work with 4K compositions, 3D layers, particle effects, or large image sequences.

Fix common download and installation errors
After Effects is not listed
Creative Cloud can hide applications that it considers incompatible with the detected operating system or hardware. On Windows, compatibility mode can cause incorrect system detection.
- Close Creative Cloud.
- Open
C:Program Files(x86)AdobeAdobe Creative CloudACC. - Right-click
Creative Cloud.exeand choose Properties. - Open Compatibility.
- Clear Run this program in compatibility mode for:.
- Apply the change, reopen Creative Cloud, and check the Apps tab again.
If the account belongs to a school or employer, an administrator may need to assign After Effects before it appears.

“Download error. Press Retry…”
Adobe identifies damaged Creative Cloud settings in the OOBE or AAMUpdater folders as one possible cause. Quit Creative Cloud before deleting them.

Reopen Creative Cloud afterward. This resets some application settings and may require you to sign in again.
The installer stops or stays stuck
Unstable Wi-Fi, antivirus software, a software firewall, a company proxy, or corrupted installation files can interrupt the process. Try a different network and make sure Creative Cloud is allowed through the firewall. On a managed network, ask the administrator whether Adobe services are blocked or require proxy settings.
For a damaged Creative Cloud installation, Adobe provides a repair option. On Windows, run:

macOS reports error A12E1
Creative Cloud cannot install on a case-sensitive file system volume. If the destination uses HFS+ Case Sensitive or another unsupported case-sensitive configuration, install Creative Cloud and After Effects on a supported non-case-sensitive volume.
A subscription still appears as a trial
Adobe says a purchase can take up to an hour to process. Confirm that the Adobe account in Creative Cloud is the account that made the purchase, check that the plan is active, then sign out and sign back in. Also check for a failed or pending payment.

If you do not want the trial to become a paid membership, cancel it from your Adobe account before the trial ends:
- Open the Adobe account page.
- Select Manage Plans.
- Choose Cancel Plan.
- Select a reason.
- Select Continue and finish the cancellation steps.
Keep confirmation of the cancellation. Removing the After Effects application from your computer does not cancel the Adobe plan.
FAQ
Is After Effects 26.0 available as a standalone Windows or Mac download?
No. Adobe distributes After Effects through Creative Cloud. The Windows Creative_Cloud_Set-Up.exe and macOS Creative_Cloud_Installer.dmg files install Creative Cloud, not a standalone After Effects installer.
How can I install After Effects 26.0 instead of the latest version?
In the Creative Cloud desktop app, open Apps, select the three-dot menu beside After Effects, choose Other versions, and select 26.0 if Adobe still lists it.
Can I use After Effects 26.0 for free permanently?
No. Adobe provides a seven-day trial. After that, After Effects requires an active Creative Cloud membership unless you cancel during the trial period.

Why is After Effects missing from Creative Cloud?
