Meshy announced Meshy-4 on August 22, 2024, with a Text to 3D workflow that generated four untextured meshes before the user selected one for separate texturing. Meshy retired the meshy-4 API model on March 20, 2026, so API users should migrate to meshy-6 or latest; the latter can change over time.
What Meshy-4 was
Meshy-4 was a generation model in Meshy, an AI 3D creation platform. Meshy announced improvements to generated geometry for Text to 3D and Image to 3D, including cleaner hard surfaces and finer detail. These were vendor claims, not results from an independent benchmark.
The model’s notable workflow change was separating mesh creation from texturing. Users could inspect candidate geometry before choosing a mesh and moving on to the texturing stage. That made it easier to focus on the form before its appearance.
Meshy-4 was an asset-generation and prototyping tool, not a replacement for conventional modeling or dimensionally accurate CAD. Generated results could still need review and editing for their intended use.

Meshy-4 API retirement
Meshy’s API changelog says the meshy-4 model was retired on March 20, 2026, and API requests using that model are no longer supported. The changelog recommends migrating to meshy-6 or latest.
This notice establishes the API’s support status. It does not establish that previously generated assets or every historical webapp workflow were deleted. Meshy’s September 18, 2026 changelog says that latest resolves to Meshy 7.1 at that time, so treat it as a moving selector rather than a permanent synonym for Meshy-6.
How Meshy-4 Text to 3D worked
Meshy’s August 22, 2024 launch post described a two-stage process:

- Enter a text prompt to generate four untextured meshes.
- Inspect the candidate forms and select one.
- Proceed to a separate texturing stage.
Meshy said this separation addressed concerns that a refined output could differ from its coarse version and allowed users to focus separately on modeling and texturing. For artists, a useful silhouette or clean form might matter more than an attractive initial material.

Geometry improvements and limits
Meshy described Meshy-4 as improving geometry in both Text to 3D and Image to 3D, including cleaner hard surfaces and more intricate details. Those descriptions should be understood as Meshy’s launch claims; the research reviewed did not establish an independent quality comparison.
Hard-surface forms such as props, vehicles, furniture, or product concepts can be useful subjects for visual exploration. But “cleaner” geometry does not mean CAD accuracy, reliable dimensions, or production-ready topology. Inspect and edit an output before relying on it in a downstream project.
Image to 3D and retry feature
Meshy’s launch post also described a free retry feature for Image to 3D when an initial generation did not meet the user’s expectations. Image-based generation can provide a starting form, but a reference image may not communicate hidden surfaces, thickness, or exact geometry. The reviewed sources do not establish current retry limits, subscription entitlements, or credit rules, so do not rely on historical plan details as current terms.
Meshy-4 and current Meshy workflows
Meshy’s current 3D Agent feature page describes a conversation-led path from an idea, photo, or sketch through concept generation and selection to a downloadable model. The page lists STL and 3MF exports toward slicers, and GLB and FBX exports toward 3D applications or engines. This is current workflow context, not a like-for-like comparison with Meshy-4.

A practical workflow for using Meshy outputs
- Define the goal. Decide whether you need a visual reference, a concept asset, an engine-ready model, or a physical print. Requirements differ by destination.
- Generate and select. In the historical Meshy-4 Text to 3D workflow, compare the four untextured candidates for useful form before proceeding to texturing.
- Review the mesh. Open the selected output in an appropriate 3D application and inspect geometry, scale, surfaces, and materials.
- Prepare for its destination. Clean and optimize the asset for a 3D application or engine; for printing, validate it in mesh-repair software and a slicer.
- Check current model support and terms. For new API work, consult Meshy’s current documentation rather than relying on retired model identifiers or old plan details.
Meshy’s current feature page lists STL/3MF exports toward slicers and GLB/FBX exports toward 3D tools and engines. Export availability does not guarantee that every generated mesh is production-ready or printable.
Using generated models for art, games, and printing
A generated model can be useful as a rotatable reference, blockout, or starting point for visual development. A game or animation project may require additional topology, UV, rigging, optimization, or engine work. Use the asset as-is only when it meets the requirements of the project.
For 3D printing, an exported file still needs preparation. Check scale, mesh integrity, wall thickness, orientation, supports, and the sliced layer preview before printing. Meshy’s support for print-oriented exports is not a guarantee that an output is ready for fabrication.

What to know before choosing Meshy today
Meshy’s August 2026 webapp changelog lists Meshy 7, Meshy 7 Texture, Meshy 6 Lite, and other later updates, showing continued product development. That does not establish that one model is best for every use. Check the current model selector and documentation for the workflow and export options you need.
