How to prepare a product photo
- Choose the source image. Start with a clear photo in which the product is visible and its edges can be distinguished from the surroundings.
- Try background removal. Upload the image to PicWish’s remover and review the resulting cutout. PicWish describes its tool as returning a transparent PNG, but check the selected feature’s export options.
- Choose a background workflow. Keep a cutout for flexible design work or try the AI background generator for a new scene. Do not assume that API requirements apply to the consumer website or app.
- Inspect the result. Check edges and ensure labels, colors, logos, and product details still represent the real item accurately.
- Check export requirements. Confirm the destination’s file format, dimensions, and image rules before publishing.
For an API workflow specifically, PicWish documents background generation using a transparent PNG foreground from 256 × 256 to 4096 × 4096 pixels and up to 20 MB. It documents output up to 1024 × 1024 pixels, retaining the source aspect ratio. These are API-specific constraints and should not be assumed to describe other PicWish tools.
Getting better product images before editing
Background removal cannot fully compensate for an unclear source photograph. A stable camera, even illumination, and a clean setup can make a product easier to review after editing.

- Keep the camera and product steady.
- Use diffuse light when possible, particularly for glossy surfaces.
- Leave visible separation between the product and its physical background.
- Photograph additional angles if the listing needs them.
Using PicWish for paintings, portfolios, and creative work

API workflow
PicWish documents separate APIs for background removal and background generation. For background generation, the API requires a transparent PNG foreground, accepts images from 256 × 256 to 4096 × 4096 pixels and up to 20 MB, and documents output up to 1024 × 1024 pixels while keeping the source aspect ratio.
PicWish says background-generation requests run asynchronously and that successful calls use credits based on the number of results. Returned result URLs are valid for one hour, so an integration should retrieve and store results promptly. These requirements describe the API, not all website or app workflows.
