The preservation language is a useful instruction, not a guarantee. Generative editors can alter areas outside a selection, especially around hair, hands, jewelry, clothing borders, and faces. Use a mask or selection whenever possible, and review every generation at full size.

Requesting empty space is more dependable than asking an image model to spell a greeting inside the artwork. Add the words afterward in a normal text layer.

For an old photograph, make restoration the first edit and festive styling the second. If the source does not reveal a garment color or facial detail, ask the model to leave it uncertain rather than inventing evidence.
How to keep faces, clothing, and hands recognizable
- Use the original file. Start with the highest-resolution phone image you have, not a screenshot or compressed social-media download.
- State what must not change. Name faces, age, skin tone, body proportions, hairstyle, clothing pattern, jewelry, expression, and the number of people.
- Make one major edit at a time. A dependable sequence is background, lighting, crop or canvas expansion, then cleanup.
- Use a local selection. Select the background when adding a courtyard, or a small empty area when adding a pot. Do not select across a face, hand, sari border, or jewelry unless you intend to edit it.
- Prefer additions over transformations. “Add one clay pot beside the subject” is safer than “redesign the entire festival scene.”
- Reject unwanted changes explicitly. Add “no extra people, duplicate limbs, altered clothing, unreadable text, invented logos, unrelated religious symbols, or exaggerated skin smoothing.”
- Inspect at 100 percent. Look at eyes, teeth, fingers, earrings, necklaces, sari borders, pot handles, sugarcane leaves, kolam symmetry, and—where relevant—animal anatomy.
Even a carefully worded prompt cannot guarantee that a person will remain identical. If the face changes, undo the generation, reduce the selection, simplify the instruction, or return to the original and edit only the background.

ChatGPT Images: conversational iteration
ChatGPT Images can create images and edit uploaded images, including adding or removing details and creating transparent backgrounds. Its practical advantage here is rapid conversational refinement: you can upload a family photo, request a restrained courtyard background, then ask for a smaller pot or less decorative clutter. It supports web, iOS, and Android, but availability and plan details can change; check the current product documentation and interface before relying on a particular feature.
Use a selection for localized edits where available, but assume the boundary may not be exact. Recheck hair edges, hands, jewelry, and faces after every generation.
Adobe Firefly Generative Fill: controlled masked edits
Firefly’s Generative Fill uses a brush selection and a text prompt to add or replace content while attempting to maintain visual consistency. It is a natural choice for removing a distracting object, adding a limited number of festive props, or extending a portrait to a vertical composition. Keep the brush area tight and describe the lighting, perspective, and scale of the new object.

Add Pongal greetings after generating the image

Before you shoot: make the source photo easier to edit
AI editing cannot reliably recover a face hidden by motion blur, harsh shadows, or heavy compression. For a sharper base image, use a smartphone tripod and a self-timer rather than holding the phone at arm’s length.
