What the wallpaper pack includes
Each of the four designs is available in device-specific versions. Choose the iPhone file for a portrait phone display, the iPad file for a tablet, and the Mac file for a desktop screen. Using the correct version helps avoid unnecessary cropping, stretching, or softness.
The collection was created by Basic Apple Guy. The creator says the images were generated with Midjourney and then upscaled, sharpened, textured, cropped, and formatted with Pixelmator Pro.
Preview the four designs
All four designs and their iPhone, iPad, and Mac download links are on the original collection page. Use the labeled download link beneath the design rather than saving a preview image or taking a screenshot.
How to download the right file
iPhone
Open the collection page on your iPhone and tap the link labeled iPhone for the design you want. Save the image to Photos. The mobile files commonly use the PNG format.
iPad
Choose the separate iPad download. Although an iPhone image may open on an iPad, the dedicated tablet version is better suited to the iPad’s proportions and should reduce awkward cropping.

Mac
Select the individual Mac download. The Mac files are supplied separately and commonly use JPG format. JPG is smaller and suitable for wallpaper; the file extension alone does not determine how good the image will look. Resolution, scaling, and cropping matter more.
How to set the wallpaper
On iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Wallpaper.
- Tap Add New Wallpaper.
- Choose Photos and select the downloaded image.
- Tap Add.
- Choose Set as Wallpaper Pair or Customize Home Screen.
Apple also supports changing wallpaper from the Lock Screen: touch and hold the Lock Screen to open the wallpaper gallery. See Apple’s current wallpaper instructions for version-specific details.
On iPad
- Save the iPad image to Photos. If it downloads to Files, open it and use the share menu to choose Save Image, where available.
- Open Settings and select Wallpaper.
- Choose Add New Wallpaper, or the equivalent option shown by your iPadOS version.
- Select the image from Photos and apply it to the Lock Screen, Home Screen, or both.
On Mac
- Download the Mac version and locate it in Finder, usually in Downloads.
- Open System Settings.
- Select Wallpaper.
- Use the photo-adding control to add the downloaded image from Finder.
- Select the image to apply it.
Labels can vary slightly between iPadOS and macOS releases, but the Wallpaper section remains the relevant place to apply a downloaded picture.
What “Van Gogh-inspired” means here
These images are not scans, reproductions, or digital editions of Van Gogh paintings. They are AI-generated interpretations influenced by features commonly associated with his work: vivid color contrasts, swirling skies, thick-looking brushwork, wheat fields, and cypress trees.
They also reinterpret Apple’s older wallpaper designs, including references to OS X Lion, OS X Mountain Lion, OS X El Capitan, and macOS Big Sur. They should therefore be described as AI-generated, Van Gogh-influenced reinterpretations of Apple wallpapers—not “Apple’s Van Gogh wallpapers,” “official Van Gogh images,” or digital versions of The Starry Night.

Basic Apple Guy’s page also states that the project is unofficial and has no affiliation with, endorsement from, or official relationship with Apple.
Static images, not dynamic wallpapers
The downloads are static image files. They do not themselves add Apple-style dynamic behavior, automatic day-and-night transitions, or interactive Lock Screen effects. Any effects available on a particular device are controlled separately by the operating system.
Choosing a wallpaper that remains readable
- Busy Lock Screens: Detailed brushwork can compete with the clock, widgets, and notifications.
- Bright areas: Light sections may make icons or text harder to read.
- Dark galaxy scenes: These may work better with light interface text, depending on your appearance settings.
- Cropping: The most attractive focal point may move or disappear when the operating system fits the image to the display.
Preview the image before applying it. On iPhone, adjust its position in the wallpaper preview. If the composition still crops badly, use an image editor to reposition it or add borders; do not stretch it.

The page loads, but the image does not
- Return to the collection page.
- Use the separate device link rather than the preview image.
- Try another browser.
- On desktop, right-click the image and choose the browser’s save or download option. On mobile, long-press it and use the available download option.
A previous Basic Apple Guy wallpaper experienced a temporary Google Drive access problem during heavy demand, so an old or redirected image link can fail even when the main collection page is available. Avoid unverified mirror sites.
The wallpaper looks blurry
Check that you downloaded the full-size file for your device rather than a preview or screenshot. Blurring can also result from using the wrong device version, operating-system enlargement, or compression by a messaging app or cloud service. Download directly from the creator’s labeled link and transfer the original file.

The file is in Files instead of Photos
Open the image in Files, tap the share menu, and choose Save Image or the equivalent option. Then select it through the Wallpaper settings. Browser and operating-system versions may use slightly different labels.

Personal use, attribution, and commercial rights
The creator presents the collection as free to download for personal device wallpaper use. That does not establish an unrestricted commercial license.
The source page does not provide detailed terms covering commercial publication, redistribution, resale, merchandise, or other reuse. Treat personal wallpaper use as the safe assumption. For commercial projects or public redistribution, ask Basic Apple Guy for written permission first. Do not assume that historical Van Gogh works, Apple wallpaper references, or AI generation automatically place these new compositions in the public domain.
