Which Epson printer is right for fine-art prints?
- Start with print width. The P900 and P5370 are 17-inch models, the P7370 and P7570 are 24-inch models, and the P9370 and P9570 are 44-inch models.
- Decide whether you need roll handling. The P5370 has built-in roll support and an automatic cutter. The P900 is a desktop alternative and requires an optional roll adapter for roll use.
- Check sheet size and media path. The P5370 cassette holds up to 100 cut sheets, from 8.5 × 11 to 17 × 22 inches. Confirm the paper’s thickness, size, feed path, and driver settings for the exact printer and stock.
- Compare ink family and workflow needs. Epson lists PRO10 for the P900, P5370, P7370, and P9370, and PRO12 for the P7570 and P9570. Choose by intended work and documented specifications, not an unverified claim that one family is universally better.
- Plan for ownership requirements. Consider space, installation, service, ink costs, and how often you will print. The P5370 is designed for Epson cartridges only.
SureColor P5370: a 17-inch production-oriented choice
The P5370 is a strong option for photographers, artists, and studios that need 17-inch output and expect to print regularly. Epson specifies 10-color UltraChrome PRO10 pigment ink, including Violet, with dedicated Photo Black and Matte Black channels.
#1 Best Overall
- CARTRIDGE-FREE PRINTING — Print lab-quality photos, graphics and creative projects; Get vibrant colors and sharp text with Epson's high-accuracy printhead and Claria ET Premium 6-color inks
- INK BOTTLES — Save on photos1 and creative projects with affordable in-house printing; All-in-one printer allows you to print 4" x 6" photos for about 4 cents each vs. 40 cents with traditional ink cartridges1
- LESS FREQUENT INK REPLACEMENT — Replacement ink bottles don't have to be changed nearly as often as ink cartridges¹; Printer, scanner and copier lets you print up to 6,200 color pages³
- PRINT FOR LONGER — Up to 2 years of ink in the box² (and with every replacement ink set) for fewer out-of-ink frustrations with this wireless printer
- ZERO CARTRIDGE WASTE — Epson EcoTank printer helps reduce the amount of cartridge waste ending up in landfills; Cartridge-free printer uses high-yield ink bottles; Each replacement ink bottle set is equivalent to about 100 individual ink cartridges⁴
Its built-in roll support and automatic cutter suit roll workflows, while its cassette supports up to 100 cut sheets from 8.5 × 11 to 17 × 22 inches. Epson lists Velvet Fine Art Paper among its borderless-paper examples. This combination makes it worth considering for readers asking which Epson printer prints 17 × 22 fine-art sheets, but confirm the specific paper and feed requirements before use.
Epson says the P5370 is designed for Epson cartridges only. Account for that requirement when comparing operating needs and supplies.
SureColor P900: compact 17-inch alternative
The P900 is a professional desktop photo printer using UltraChrome PRO10. Epson describes it for photography, graphic design, fine art, and illustration. It may suit someone who wants 17-inch output in a desktop workflow rather than the P5370’s production-oriented roll and sheet handling.
Rank #2
- Professional-quality photos and prints — 6-color Claria Photo HD inks and a 5760 x 1440 dpi print resolution produce stunning borderless prints up to 11" x 17"
- Fast photo printing — delivers 4" x 6" borderless photos with astounding detail and accuracy in as fast as 11 seconds¹

- Versatile paper handling — separate trays for plain and photo paper, plus a rear feed for specialty paper
- Easy wireless printing — print from your laptop, desktop, smartphone or tablet³; use Wi-Fi Direct⁴ for router-free printing
The P900’s roll adapter is optional. If roll printing is important, compare the cost and workflow of that accessory with the P5370’s built-in roll support. Epson’s specifications, rather than a general claim of superior print quality, should guide the choice.
When to consider 24- or 44-inch models
For work wider than 17 inches, compare the 24-inch P7370 and P7570 or the 44-inch P9370 and P9570. Epson announced the P7370 and P9370 for professional photography, fine-art reproductions, and graphic design; Epson lists their PRO10 ink, dedicated Photo and Matte Black channels, and support for fine-art roll and sheet media and rigid boards up to 1.5 mm.
The P7570 and P9570 use PRO12. Epson claims the P9570 ink set covers up to 99 percent of the PANTONE FORMULA GUIDE solid-coated standard. That is an Epson product claim, not an independent comparative test.

Choose a wider model when its print width and workflow are useful often enough to justify its space, setup, supplies, and service needs. The research does not establish comparative prices or total ownership costs; check current pricing and availability before purchasing.

Fine-art paper and media handling
“Fine-art paper” does not mean every stock loads or prints the same way. Check each paper’s supported thickness, sheet size, feed path, borderless limitations, and required media setting against the exact printer and paper documentation. Epson says its Media Installer can help configure a range of media, including thick fine-art papers, for the P5370.
For specialty media, follow the paper maker’s loading instructions. Epson’s specialty-media advice includes handling sheets with clean, lint-free gloves and storing media flat in a cool, dry environment. Confirm that the chosen printer supports your intended stock before buying paper in quantity.
Rank #4
- Museum quality, acid-free base to preserve fine art and photos.
- 100% cotton rag for archivability.
- Bright white surface for excellent color reproduction.
- Enhanced 1440 dpi printing for high-quality output.
Ink claims and print permanence
Epson describes the P5370 as offering up to 200 years of color and 400 years of black-and-white print permanence. These are manufacturer claims, not independent comparative measurements; Epson qualifies the black-and-white figure as currently in testing. Actual display life depends on the specified conditions and the materials and display environment.
Do not treat a pigment-ink claim as a guarantee that a print is indestructible. Follow the printer, ink, and paper makers’ guidance for handling, storage, and display.

- Whether roll support is built in or requires an accessory
- Paper thickness, feed path, and media settings for your selected stock
- Ink family and cartridge requirements
- Space, installation, service, and current supply costs
- Current US model availability and purchase price

Is the P900 or P5370 better for a 17-inch workflow?
Neither is universally better. The P900 is the desktop alternative and uses an optional roll adapter; the P5370 has built-in roll support, an automatic cutter, and a cassette for up to 100 cut sheets. Choose according to your media workflow and production needs.
Do the P7370 and P7570 use the same ink family?
No. Epson lists PRO10 for the P7370 and PRO12 for the P7570. Both are 24-inch models, so compare ink family and workflow specifications as well as width.
Does the P5370’s permanence claim guarantee a print will last 200 or 400 years?
No. Epson presents those as conditional product claims, and it says the black-and-white figure is currently in testing. They are not guarantees for every paper, image, or display environment.
