To install Adobe Photoshop on Windows 10, install the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app, then select Photoshop in Creative Cloud’s Apps tab. For current Photoshop releases, Adobe lists Windows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 10 version 21H2 LTSC on supported hardware; you also need 64-bit Windows, an Adobe account, a plan or eligible trial, internet access, and administrator permission.

Check Photoshop’s requirements before downloading: Creative Cloud may support Windows 10 versions that the current Photoshop release does not. Adobe’s requirements for Photoshop 27.x and later are listed in its Photoshop technical requirements.

Check whether your Windows 10 PC can run Photoshop

Adobe’s current Photoshop requirements should be treated separately from the requirements for the Creative Cloud desktop app. A computer may be able to install Creative Cloud but still be unable to install the current Photoshop release.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Adobe lists these requirements for Photoshop 27.x and later:

Requirement Minimum or supported specification
Operating system 64-bit Windows 10 version 22H2, or Windows 10 version 21H2 LTSC, on supported Intel or AMD hardware
Memory 8 GB RAM minimum; 16 GB or more recommended
Graphics DirectX 12-compatible GPU, feature level 12_0 or later, with at least 1.5 GB of GPU memory
Storage 10 GB available space minimum, plus temporary installation space; Adobe recommends 100 GB available for optimum use
Display At least 1280 × 800 at 100% scaling, or 1920 × 1080 at 150% scaling
Internet Required for activation, subscription validation, updates, and some online services

See Adobe’s current Photoshop technical requirements for release-specific details. Adobe recommends 4 GB of GPU memory for 4K displays and higher.

Find your Windows version and system type

  1. Press Windows + I.
  2. Open System, then select About.
  3. Under System type, confirm that Windows says 64-bit operating system.
  4. Under Windows specifications, note the version and build. For current Photoshop releases, version 22H2 is the relevant standard Windows 10 target.

Seeing “Windows 10” in Settings is not enough. A 32-bit installation or an older Windows 10 build may prevent the current Photoshop version from appearing or installing.

If your PC uses an ARM processor

Windows 10 ARM computers have a separate compatibility path. Adobe documents native Photoshop support for supported 64-bit ARM devices, but some features and formats have limitations, including certain video-related functions. Plug-ins may also behave differently from their Intel or AMD versions. Check Adobe’s Windows ARM support information before installing. Adobe says unsupported legacy Photoshop versions were not designed or tested for ARM, so do not assume that older releases support it.

What you need before installing

  • A compatible 64-bit Windows 10 installation.
  • An Adobe account.
  • A Photoshop subscription, a Creative Cloud plan that includes Photoshop, or an eligible trial.
  • A stable internet connection.
  • Administrator permission to install software.
  • At least 10 GB of free storage, plus additional temporary space; Adobe recommends 100 GB available for optimum use.
  • At least 8 GB RAM; Adobe recommends 16 GB or more.
  • Compatible DirectX 12 graphics hardware and updated Windows and graphics drivers.

Photoshop is not a permanently free desktop application. Adobe documents a seven-day trial for Creative Cloud applications; payment information may be requested, and the trial can be canceled online. Review the billing and cancellation terms during signup. See Adobe’s trial instructions.

You can choose a Photoshop single-app plan if you only need Photoshop, or a Photography plan if you also need Lightroom. Current prices vary by country, billing term, promotions, student status, and tax.

Install Adobe Creative Cloud on Windows 10

Photoshop is installed through Creative Cloud rather than through a conventional standalone Photoshop installer. The first stage is installing Creative Cloud; the second is installing Photoshop inside it.

  1. Open Adobe’s official Creative Cloud desktop download page.
  2. Allow the download to start, then open the downloaded Windows installer. The expected filename is Creative_Cloud_Set-Up.exe.
  3. If Windows displays a security or User Account Control prompt, verify that the installer came from Adobe and approve it if appropriate.
  4. Follow the setup instructions and sign in with the Adobe account associated with your plan or trial.

Creative Cloud installs in Adobe’s default location; Adobe does not allow the desktop manager itself to be assigned to another drive or folder. This does not mean every Photoshop-related file must use the same storage location.

Download only from Adobe. Avoid search-result download sites and unofficial “free Photoshop” installers, which can create licensing, malware, update, and account-security problems.

Install Photoshop from Creative Cloud

  1. Open the Creative Cloud desktop app from the Windows Start menu.
  2. Sign in if prompted.
  3. Open the Apps tab.
  4. Find Photoshop under the desktop applications. Do not confuse it with Photoshop on the web or Photoshop Elements.
  5. Select Install.
  6. Keep the internet connection active while Creative Cloud downloads and installs the application.
  7. When installation finishes, select Open.

During a first installation, Adobe’s website may begin the process and then hand it over to the Creative Cloud desktop app. That is normal. Downloading Creative Cloud alone does not install Photoshop; Photoshop must still be selected in the Apps tab.

Launch Photoshop for the first time

You can launch Photoshop by selecting Open in Creative Cloud or by searching for Photoshop from the Windows Start menu. Sign in if prompted and allow the application to complete its initial setup.

After Photoshop opens, you can optionally configure the scratch disk, update behavior, cloud-document preferences, plug-ins, workspace, and language. None of these settings is required to complete the installation.

To make Photoshop easier to find, right-click its Start-menu entry and choose the available option to pin it to Start or the taskbar.

Fix common Photoshop installation problems

The Creative Cloud download does not start

  1. Use Adobe’s Restart download option.
  2. Try a different supported browser and check your Downloads folder.
  3. Confirm that antivirus software or browser security has not blocked the file.
  4. Use Adobe’s official direct-download page for the appropriate Windows architecture and version.

Creative Cloud freezes or takes too long to install

Unstable Wi-Fi, antivirus protection, a software firewall, a corporate proxy, or corrupted Creative Cloud files can interrupt setup.

  1. Test the connection or use a wired connection.
  2. Allow Creative Cloud through the firewall when Windows or your security software asks.
  3. Check antivirus quarantine and protection history.
  4. On a work or school network, ask the administrator whether Adobe services are blocked by a proxy or hardware firewall.
  5. Run Adobe’s Creative Cloud uninstaller and choose Repair first if that option is offered.
  6. Reopen Creative Cloud and sign in.
  7. If repair fails, uninstall and reinstall Creative Cloud.

Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool only as a later troubleshooting step, because it is more disruptive than repair or a normal reinstall.

Photoshop is not listed in Creative Cloud

Check these possibilities:

  • You are signed in to a different Adobe account from the one used for the purchase or trial.
  • Your plan or trial does not include the desktop Photoshop application.
  • Your Windows 10 version or hardware does not meet the current Photoshop requirements.
  • Creative Cloud has not refreshed your account status; sign out, restart the app, and sign in again.
  • You are viewing web applications rather than desktop applications.
  • A school or business account has not assigned Photoshop to you. Organization-managed users may need to request access from an administrator.

Photoshop opens in trial mode after purchase

Adobe says a purchase may take up to an hour to process. Confirm that the subscription is active and that there are no billing problems. Then sign out of Creative Cloud, sign back in with the purchasing Adobe account, and check for Photoshop updates. If the problem remains, follow Adobe’s guidance for purchased apps appearing as trials and apps opening in trial mode.

Installation fails because of insufficient storage

Adobe’s 10 GB figure is a listed installation minimum, not a guarantee that 10 GB of total free space will be enough. The installer may need temporary space, and Photoshop uses scratch-disk storage while working.

Free additional space before trying again, preferably on the internal SSD. If Photoshop installs but performs poorly, check which drive is selected as its scratch disk. Avoid starting an installation when only a few gigabytes remain available.

You want an older Photoshop version

Adobe generally provides the current application and the previous major version through Creative Cloud, where your plan and system support them. Older versions can have different compatibility, activation, feature, and security limitations. Use Adobe’s official download and installation resources rather than third-party installers.

Uninstall or reinstall Photoshop

  1. Open Creative Cloud.
  2. Go to Apps > All Apps.
  3. Select the More actions icon beside Photoshop.
  4. Choose Uninstall.
  5. Choose whether to keep or remove Photoshop preferences.

Afterward, reinstall Photoshop from the Apps tab. Do not normally uninstall Creative Cloud just to remove Photoshop: Creative Cloud manages Photoshop installation, updates, licensing, and access to other Adobe applications. If Creative Cloud itself must be removed, uninstall its managed applications first and follow Adobe’s Creative Cloud removal instructions.

Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, and Photoshop on the web

Photoshop is Adobe’s full desktop application and requires a subscription after any applicable trial. Photoshop Elements is a separate product with simpler tools and a different licensing and installation path; it is not a free or equivalent replacement. Photoshop on the web is browser-based and may suit lighter workflows, but it does not replace every desktop feature, plug-in, or workflow.

If you need the full Windows desktop application, install Photoshop through Creative Cloud. If you specifically want simpler editing or a different licensing model, evaluate Photoshop Elements separately rather than installing an unofficial Photoshop copy.

FAQ

Can I install Photoshop on Windows 10?

Yes, if your PC meets the requirements for the Photoshop release you want. Adobe lists Windows 10 version 22H2 or version 21H2 LTSC for Photoshop 27.x and later on supported Intel or AMD systems; Windows must be 64-bit.

Can I install Photoshop without Creative Cloud?

No. Adobe distributes the desktop Photoshop application through the Creative Cloud desktop app, rather than a conventional standalone Photoshop installer.

Is Photoshop free to use?

Photoshop is subscription-based. Adobe documents a seven-day trial for Creative Cloud apps; review the signup, billing, and cancellation terms before starting it.

Why can I install Creative Cloud but not Photoshop?

Creative Cloud has broader Windows 10 support than current Photoshop releases. Check Photoshop’s specific Windows version and hardware requirements, as well as whether your Adobe plan includes Photoshop.

How much free space do I need to install Photoshop?

Adobe lists 10 GB as the minimum available space for installation, plus temporary space. Adobe recommends 100 GB available for optimum use, so having only the minimum may not be sufficient in practice.
