Google launched Nano Banana Pro—officially called Gemini 3 Pro Image—on November 20, 2025. The image-generation and editing model introduced higher-resolution output, improved text rendering, more controlled image edits, multi-image composition, and Google Search grounding in supported experiences.
It is important to date that announcement: as of August 18, 2026, Nano Banana Pro is no longer Google’s newest Nano Banana model. Google subsequently released Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana 2 Lite. Nano Banana Pro is best understood as a major 2025 upgrade to Google’s image tools, not the current flagship by default.
What is Nano Banana Pro?
Nano Banana Pro is Google’s consumer-facing name for Gemini 3 Pro Image, an image model built on Gemini 3 Pro. It can generate new images from text, edit supplied images, and combine multiple visual references into a single composition.

Unlike a standalone application, it is a model integrated into Google products and developer services. At launch, Google announced access through the Gemini app, Google AI Studio, the Gemini API, Vertex AI, Google Antigravity, Google Ads, Google Slides, Google Vids, NotebookLM, Flow, and selected Search experiences. Features, quotas, billing, and model names vary by product and may have changed since launch.

- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
Google positioned Nano Banana Pro for more complex and controlled visual work than the original Nano Banana model. Its practical audience includes designers, marketers, educators, developers, image-generation hobbyists, and teams creating early-stage visual concepts.
Google’s launch announcement describes the model as capable of “studio-quality” results and emphasizes its reasoning and visual-control improvements. Those are Google’s claims, not independent benchmark conclusions.
What changed from the original Nano Banana?
The original Nano Banana was based on Gemini 2.5 Flash Image and focused on fast, casual image creation and editing. Nano Banana Pro is based on Gemini 3 Pro and targets richer reasoning, more detailed compositions, stronger typography, and professional-style controls.
| Area | Original Nano Banana | Nano Banana Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Underlying model | Gemini 2.5 Flash Image | Gemini 3 Pro Image |
| Typical emphasis | Fast, casual creation and edits | Complex compositions and controlled visual work |
| Resolution | Reported ceiling of 1024 × 1024 pixels | 2K and 4K output options, alongside lower-resolution generation |
| Text | More prone to misspellings and garbled lettering | Improved legibility for posters, diagrams, packaging, and labels |
| References | Basic image-to-image use | Google described compositions using up to 14 images or objects |
| People | Consistency could drift between edits | Google described maintaining up to five people in a composition |
| Speed and cost | Faster and cheaper at launch | More capable, but slower and more expensive at launch |
The figures for 14 input images and five people are stated capabilities, not guarantees. Faces, hands, clothing, logos, object geometry, and small details can still change across generations.
Why improved text rendering mattered
Image models have historically struggled with words inside images. Common problems include misspelled names, distorted letters, incorrect chart labels, poor typography, and inconsistent multilingual text. These defects are especially damaging in posters, advertisements, packaging mockups, infographics, diagrams, and educational material.
Google presented Nano Banana Pro as better at producing legible text in those settings, including multilingual packaging and typography-focused designs. That improvement makes the model more useful for visual drafts than a system that produces attractive imagery but unusable lettering.
It does not make generated text reliable by default. Google’s own prompting guidance acknowledges that text rendering, factual accuracy, and complex edits may require refinement. Always proofread names, specifications, prices, labels, translations, and legal copy. For final artwork, replace generated text with verified text in a design application when accuracy matters.

Search grounding and visual explanations
In supported experiences, Nano Banana Pro can use Gemini’s reasoning and Google Search grounding to create visuals based on factual or current information. Possible uses include recipe infographics, educational explainers, weather visuals, sports graphics, and diagrams based on supplied notes.
This is different from ordinary text-to-image generation: the model can help organize information before visualizing it. But grounding does not remove the need for human review. Search results may be stale, misunderstood, incomplete, or simplified during the image-generation process. A chart that looks authoritative can still contain incorrect values, and an educational illustration can leave out important context.
Composition, consistency, and creative controls
Nano Banana Pro is designed to work with several references at once. Google described combining up to 14 input images or objects, including photographs, sketches, blueprints, product references, clothing, and environments. That can help users create a product scene, storyboard, marketing mockup, or concept image without describing every visual element from scratch.
The model also supports more deliberate image-to-image changes, including:

- Moving the focal point or adjusting focus.
- Changing depth of field.
- Reworking scene lighting, including day-to-night transformations.
- Applying color grading.
- Editing a localized part of an image.
- Converting an image to another aspect ratio.
- Generating 2K or 4K output for larger visual drafts.
These controls are valuable when the goal is to revise an existing composition rather than start over. They are not a substitute for deterministic production tools. Repeated edits can alter faces, hands, jewelry, glasses, logos, fabric patterns, and small product details.
Where could people use it?
Gemini users
At launch, Google said users could select Create images with the Thinking model in the Gemini app. Free users received limited Nano Banana Pro generations; after the quota was exhausted, image generation reverted to the original Nano Banana model.
Subscribers and Google products
Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers received higher quotas than free users at launch. Google also announced integrations or planned availability in products including Google Ads, Slides, Vids, NotebookLM, Flow, and AI Mode in Search for eligible users in the United States. Availability differed by subscription, country, product, and rollout stage.

Developers
Developers could access the model through Google AI Studio, the Gemini API, and Vertex AI. AI Studio and the API are better suited to prototypes, internal tools, and programmatic workflows. Vertex AI is more appropriate for organizations that need cloud administration, service accounts, monitoring, governance, and enterprise integration.
Model identifiers, regions, quotas, preview status, and pricing are volatile. Check the current Google interface and documentation before building a production workflow.
Is Nano Banana Pro free?
It was available to try for free at launch, but it was not unlimited. Free Gemini users received a limited number of generations. Once that quota was used, the experience reverted to the original Nano Banana model. Paid Google AI tiers offered higher quotas.
Google did not disclose a universal consumer limit in the launch coverage. Current limits can vary by plan, location, demand, and product, so a specific August 2026 quota should not be assumed without checking the live Gemini interface or plan documentation.
Consumer subscriptions and API billing are separate decisions. A Gemini subscription may be convenient for an individual creator, while AI Studio or the Gemini API is more appropriate when an application needs programmatic generation and usage-based billing.
Launch-era API pricing
TechCrunch reported the following November 2025 API figures:
- Original Nano Banana: $0.039 per 1024-pixel image.
- Nano Banana Pro: $0.139 per 1080p or 2K image.
- Nano Banana Pro: $0.24 per 4K image.
These are launch-era figures, not confirmed August 2026 prices. API pricing and model availability may have changed after the release of Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana 2 Lite. Treat 4K as a quality and budget decision: it can be useful for large-format drafts, but it is not automatically necessary for social posts or early concepts.
A practical prompting workflow
Google recommends specifying the subject, composition, action, location, style, camera angle, lighting, text requirements, factual constraints, and aspect ratio or output format.
A vague request such as:
Make a marketing image for a coffee brand.
leaves too many decisions to the model. A more useful brief is:
Recommended Free Tools
Create a 16:9 product-marketing image for a premium cardamom coffee brand. Place the matte black package on a stone counter beside a ceramic cup. Use warm morning window light, a shallow depth of field, and a three-quarter camera angle. Preserve the package logo exactly as supplied. Add the headline “Cardamom Roast” in large cream-colored serif type and leave negative space on the left for ad copy.
Even a detailed prompt cannot guarantee exact logo preservation, legally safe reproduction of a brand asset, or perfect typography. Upload only material you have permission to use, and proofread the result before anyone sees it as factual or final.

Limitations and risks
Text is improved, not perfect
Expect occasional misspellings, missing words, incorrect punctuation, and unstable typography. Names, prices, product specifications, legal notices, and long passages should never be accepted without checking.
Brand assets can change
Logos, trademarks, packaging geometry, and product details may be altered. If a brand mark must be exact, use the generated image as a concept and finish the composition with approved assets.

People and objects can drift
Multi-image composition improves consistency but does not guarantee it. Faces, hands, accessories, clothing, proportions, and object relationships may change between iterations.

Factual visuals require review
Search grounding can improve context, but it does not guarantee correct data. Review every number, label, scale, location, date, and claim in a chart or diagram.
Rights and privacy still apply
Using a person’s likeness, a copyrighted reference, a trademark, or a private photograph may raise copyright, publicity-rights, trademark, confidentiality, or privacy issues. Access to the tool does not itself establish ownership, licensing, commercial rights, or permission to use uploaded material. Check the applicable Google terms for the product and date you use.
Speed, cost, and repeatability
Nano Banana Pro was described as slower and more expensive than the original model. It is also not the ideal choice for workflows that require deterministic outputs, identical reruns, or very high-volume generation at the lowest possible per-image cost.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →What is SynthID?
Google said generated media includes an imperceptible SynthID watermark. The Gemini app also introduced a way to upload an image and ask whether it was generated or edited by Google AI.
At launch, the Gemini sparkle remained visible on images generated by free and Google AI Pro users. Google said Google AI Ultra and AI Studio users would receive images without that visible watermark. Verification initially began with English-language image prompts, with broader language, audio, and video support planned.
SynthID should not be treated as a universal AI-image detector. It is primarily useful for identifying Google-generated or Google-edited media. The absence of a SynthID signal does not prove that an image is human-made or that it came from no other AI system.
How it fits into the newer Nano Banana lineup
Nano Banana Pro was Google’s major image-model announcement in November 2025. By August 2026, however, it was no longer accurate to call it the latest Nano Banana model without a date qualifier. Google had released Nano Banana 2 in February 2026 and Nano Banana 2 Lite in June 2026, according to later coverage from TechCrunch and The Next Web.
The exact best choice depends on the current product, plan, model availability, quota, latency, and pricing. Nano Banana Pro should therefore be evaluated as a dated model in Google’s evolving image family rather than assumed to be the current flagship across every Google service.
Bottom line
Nano Banana Pro’s importance was not simply that it generated larger images. Its November 2025 launch brought stronger reasoning, more legible text, multi-reference composition, richer editing controls, and higher-resolution output into Google’s image stack. It was a substantial upgrade over the original Nano Banana for visual drafts, marketing concepts, diagrams, storyboards, and image editing.
It was never a guarantee of perfect typography, factual accuracy, brand fidelity, likeness preservation, or production-ready artwork. And as of August 2026, it should be discussed as a major earlier release rather than Google’s newest Nano Banana model. For current work, compare the available Nano Banana versions inside the specific Google product you plan to use, then weigh quality against quota, cost, speed, watermarking, rights, and the amount of human finishing your project requires.
