The best laptop for Cricut in 2026 is not the one with the most powerful processor. It is a supported Windows or Mac computer with enough memory for Design Space, a fast SSD, a comfortable screen, and a reliable USB or Bluetooth connection.
For most people, the 13-inch MacBook Air with M5 is the best overall choice. The Dell XPS 13 is the best compact Windows alternative, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 or Dell Inspiron 14 offers the best value, and the Lenovo Yoga 7i is the best touchscreen option. Do not buy a Chromebook for Cricut Design Space: Cricut does not support ChromeOS.
Quick picks
- Best overall: Apple MacBook Air 13-inch with M5, configured with 16GB memory and a 512GB SSD.
- Best Windows laptop: Dell XPS 13 with 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD.
- Best value: Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 or Dell Inspiron 14 with Windows 11, 16GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD.
- Best touchscreen: Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1.
- Best large screen: Apple MacBook Air 15-inch with M5.
- Avoid: Chromebooks, Linux laptops, Windows S Mode systems, 4GB configurations, and laptops with eMMC storage where possible.
Cricut Design Space works with Cricut Joy, Explore, Maker, and Venture machine families, subject to each machine’s connection and feature requirements. Cricut’s current FAQ and machine comparison page are the final authority for a particular machine.

The 15 best laptops for Cricut in 2026
These are recommended model families and configurations, not claims of hands-on testing. Retailers frequently change processors, displays, memory, storage, and prices under the same product name. Check the exact specification before ordering.
1. Apple MacBook Air 13-inch with M5 — best overall
Buy it with: 16GB unified memory and a 512GB SSD.
The 13-inch MacBook Air is an excellent fit for Cricut users who want a quiet, portable computer with a high-quality display. Apple’s current MacBook Air family uses the M5 chip and offers 16GB to 32GB of unified memory and 512GB to 4TB of storage. Apple claims up to 18 hours of battery life, although actual Design Space runtime depends on brightness, Wi-Fi, browser use, and connected accessories.
It has ample performance for Design Space, SVG uploads, image-heavy projects, browsing, and ordinary creative software. Its fanless design is also pleasant in a craft room.
Main drawback: The limited port selection may require a USB-C hub for USB-A Cricut cables, external drives, or SD cards. Choose Windows instead if you depend on Windows-only craft software.
2. Dell XPS 13 (2026) — best compact Windows laptop
Buy it with: 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD. Avoid choosing the 8GB version solely because it is cheaper.
The current XPS 13 combines Windows 11 with a compact 13.4-inch 2.5K touchscreen. It is a strong option for crafters who move between a craft room, office, classroom, or craft fair. Dell listed a starting price of $699.99 on the referenced US product page on August 18, 2026; configuration and sale pricing can change.
Windows 11 is a supported desktop platform for Cricut Design Space, and 16GB memory gives more room for browser tabs, Canva, photo tools, and file management.
Main drawback: The XPS 13 has two USB-C ports and no card reader on the referenced configuration. Plan for a hub if you use USB-A accessories.

3. ASUS Zenbook 14 — best OLED Windows option
Buy it with: 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD.
The Zenbook 14 is a polished Windows ultraportable with configurations that can include an OLED display. A good screen makes it easier to inspect small details, colors, photos, and layered SVG designs, although OLED does not make a Cricut machine cut faster.
It is a good premium alternative to the XPS 13 when display quality matters. Check the exact processor, port selection, and memory before buying because Zenbook specifications vary substantially between listings.
Main drawback: OLED configurations can cost more and may use more battery than less demanding displays. Avoid an 8GB or unverified ARM configuration for a Cricut-focused purchase.
4. Lenovo Yoga 7i 2-in-1 — best touchscreen laptop
Buy it with: Windows 11, 16GB RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a current Intel Core Ultra or equivalent processor.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The Yoga 7i is a sensible choice if you genuinely want a touchscreen and a hinge that folds into tablet or tent modes. Touch can make zooming, panning, previewing, and general creative work convenient.
That flexibility is a convenience, not a Cricut requirement. A conventional laptop with a better keyboard, lower weight, or lower price may be smarter if you rarely use touch.
Main drawback: A 2-in-1 is generally heavier than a small conventional ultraportable. Compare hinge quality, screen brightness, keyboard comfort, and ports rather than buying solely for the folding design.
5. Apple MacBook Air 15-inch with M5 — best large-screen Mac
Buy it with: 16GB unified memory and a 512GB SSD.
The 15-inch MacBook Air uses the same M5 platform as the 13-inch model but provides a 15.3-inch display. The extra canvas is helpful when Design Space sits beside a browser, reference image, file folder, or online shop.
It is not inherently faster for Cricut than the 13-inch model. You are primarily paying for workspace, not additional cutting performance.

Main drawback: It is less compact and usually more expensive than the 13-inch Air. Choose it when screen area matters more than portability.
6. Microsoft Surface Laptop — best polished Windows experience
Buy it with: 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD.
The Surface Laptop is attractive to buyers who want a clean Windows experience, a portable design, and a good everyday screen. It has enough capability for Design Space and normal craft-business tasks when configured appropriately.
Important qualification: Verify the processor architecture for the exact SKU. ARM-based Windows laptops can offer excellent battery life, but buyers who need maximum compatibility with older peripherals or other craft software should confirm current Cricut behavior before purchase. Intel or AMD Windows models are the lower-risk choice.

7. ASUS Zenbook A14 — best lightweight Windows travel option
Buy it with: 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD, after confirming the processor architecture.
The Zenbook A14 family targets lightweight Windows portability and current AI-PC designs. It suits crafters who carry a laptop between home, workshops, and events.
Main drawback: Some configurations use ARM processors. Confirm compatibility with the current Cricut desktop app and inspect the exact ports before buying. Do not assume that every Zenbook A14 listing behaves identically.
8. HP Envy x360 14 — best creative 2-in-1 alternative
Buy it with: 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD.
The Envy x360 offers a flexible touchscreen design for users who want Cricut alongside photo editing, schoolwork, office tasks, or broader creative applications. It is more versatile than a basic budget laptop without requiring gaming hardware.
Main drawback: Retailer configurations vary widely. Check whether memory is soldered, whether the display is bright enough for your workspace, and whether the exact listing includes the ports you need.
9. Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 — best value mainstream laptop
Buy it with: Windows 11, 16GB RAM, a 512GB SSD, Bluetooth, and preferably both USB-A and USB-C data ports.
The IdeaPad Slim 5 is a strong value direction for users who need a dependable everyday laptop rather than premium materials or a high-end display. It has the right balance for Design Space, browsing, business tasks, and image preparation when properly configured.
Main drawback: Screen quality, ports, and processors vary by submodel. Do not buy the cheapest listing without checking for 4GB memory, eMMC storage, or Windows S Mode.
10. Acer Swift Go 14 — best affordable premium ultraportable
Buy it with: 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD.
The Swift Go 14 is a useful middle ground between low-cost Windows laptops and premium ultraportables. Its 14-inch format is a practical size for Design Space, file organization, and moving around the house.
Main drawback: Confirm the display type, brightness, processor generation, and ports for the exact model. It is not the right choice if you need maximum repairability or extensive built-in connectivity.
11. Samsung Galaxy Book5 Pro 14-inch — best premium Windows display
Buy it with: 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD.
The Galaxy Book Pro family targets a thin Windows design and premium display experience. It makes sense for crafters who also value photo work, media, and a particularly polished screen.

Main drawback: The premium is difficult to justify if Cricut is your only demanding workload. A midrange IdeaPad, Inspiron, or Swift can deliver the same basic Design Space capability for less.
12. ASUS Vivobook S 14 — best colorful/value creative laptop
Buy it with: 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD.
The Vivobook S 14 is aimed at general-purpose creative users who want a good balance of screen, performance, and price. It is suitable for Design Space plus image conversion, browsing, online selling, and ordinary office work.

- 1x USB Type C, 1 x USB Type A, 1x Headphone/Microphone Combo Jack, HDMI
- Super Fast WiFi and Bluetooth, Integrated Webcam
- Chrome OS, AC Charger Included, Pastel Blue
Main drawback: ASUS sells multiple generations and processor types under similar names. Check the exact SKU rather than relying on the family name.
13. Lenovo ThinkPad E14 — best practical business-style option
Buy it with: 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD.
The ThinkPad E14 is a practical option for people who value a comfortable keyboard, business-oriented design, and useful ports more than an ultra-thin body or OLED panel. It is a good fit for a crafter who also manages orders, spreadsheets, shipping, and customer messages.
Main drawback: It is less stylish and may have a less color-rich display than premium OLED competitors. That does not affect Cricut compatibility.
14. HP Pavilion Plus 14 — best midrange general-purpose choice
Buy it with: 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD.
The Pavilion Plus 14 is a sensible choice for Cricut users who also need a computer for school, work, browsing, and video calls. A 14-inch screen provides a useful compromise between a small 13-inch laptop and a heavier 15-inch model.
Main drawback: HP changes retail configurations frequently. Avoid listings with an older processor, 8GB non-upgradable memory, or a small eMMC drive.
15. Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 — best lower-cost touchscreen pick
Buy it with: Windows 11, 16GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe Inspiron 14 2-in-1 is a broadly available, flexible option for shoppers who want a touchscreen without paying premium ultraportable prices. It can be a good Cricut laptop when the specification is right.
Main drawback: Do not let a low sale price override the configuration. Reject 4GB RAM, eMMC storage, very old processors, and Windows S Mode. If the price approaches a better-built Yoga or MacBook Air, compare those alternatives.
What Cricut Design Space actually requires
Official minimum requirements
Cricut’s current system requirements list:
- Windows 10 or later, or macOS 12 or later.
- An Intel dual-core or equivalent AMD processor.
- 4GB RAM.
- 2GB of free storage.
- USB or Bluetooth.
- A minimum 1024 × 768 display.
- Broadband internet for downloading, signing in, and some search functions.
- Minimum broadband speeds of approximately 2–3 Mbps download and 1–2 Mbps upload.
Cricut does not support Chromebooks, Linux, Unix computers, or Windows systems running in S Mode. These are compatibility restrictions, not merely performance recommendations.
The sensible 2026 target
The minimum specification is not the same as a good buying specification. For a new laptop, target:

- 512GB SSD: 256GB is workable for light use, while 1TB is useful for large photo, video, or creative libraries.
- Windows 11 or a currently supported macOS version.
- A current Intel, AMD, or Apple silicon processor. Avoid paying for gaming-class hardware.
- A 13- to 15-inch screen: 14 inches is the best general-purpose size for many users.
- USB-A, USB-C data, or Bluetooth: USB-A is convenient, but a USB-C hub can solve the problem on thin laptops.
- Good brightness and viewing angles: around 300–500 nits is a useful general usability target for bright craft rooms, not a Cricut requirement.
Mac or Windows: which is better for Cricut?
Both platforms are officially supported. Cricut provides desktop installation instructions for Windows and Mac, so neither platform is inherently required.
| Choose Windows if you value | Choose Mac if you value |
|---|---|
| More price points and broader hardware choice | Quiet, consistent hardware |
| More laptops with built-in USB-A ports | Excellent Apple silicon battery efficiency |
| Touchscreens and 2-in-1 designs | Integration with iPhone and iPad |
| Compatibility with Windows-only craft or business software | A simple, polished workflow |
Choose the platform that matches your existing files, phones, software, and accessories. A MacBook is not automatically better for Cricut, and a Windows laptop is not automatically faster.
Do you need a dedicated graphics card?
No. Ordinary Design Space work does not justify a discrete GPU or gaming laptop. Your money is better spent on memory, SSD storage, a better display, a reliable keyboard and trackpad, ports, and warranty coverage.
A dedicated GPU becomes relevant only if the same laptop will also handle demanding video editing, 3D work, modern gaming, or professional image applications. It does not make the physical Cricut machine cut faster.
Why RAM and storage matter more than headline processor branding
Four gigabytes is Cricut’s stated minimum, but it leaves little room for Design Space alongside a browser, Canva, Photoshop, image converters, video calls, or file-management tools. Cricut also notes that some features may require higher specifications.
With 4GB RAM, common symptoms include browser tabs reloading, slow image uploads, delays when switching applications, and Design Space becoming unresponsive. Closing apps and restarting can help, but buying 16GB in the first place is the better solution.
Similarly, Cricut lists 2GB of free disk space as a minimum. A 512GB SSD is a better default because the operating system, applications, downloaded fonts, photos, SVG libraries, and personal files all share the drive. Avoid eMMC storage when possible: it is usually slower and less flexible than an SSD.

Ports, Bluetooth, and connecting your Cricut
Bluetooth is convenient for wireless machine connections. USB remains valuable for initial setup, older machines, troubleshooting, and accessories.
Recommended Free Tools
Look for:
- At least one USB-C port that supports data.
- At least one USB-A port if possible.
- Bluetooth.
- A headphone jack if you use one.
- An SD card reader if you import photos frequently.
USB-C-only laptops are not automatically a bad choice. Budget for a reliable USB-C hub if you need USB-A Cricut cables, SD cards, external drives, or several accessories. The hub should support data, not merely charging.
Chromebooks and other unsupported devices
Do not buy a Chromebook for Cricut Design Space. Cricut states that Design Space is not compatible with ChromeOS. Linux and Unix computers are also unsupported, and Windows S Mode is not supported.
An iPad or Android tablet is different from a Chromebook. Cricut supports mobile apps on qualified devices, including iOS 17 or later and Android 11 or later, although performance varies by device. Tablets can be useful, but a laptop is generally easier for SVG organization, font management, multitasking, external storage, and longer design sessions.
Budget guidance
- Under $600: Look for Windows 11, 16GB RAM if available, a 512GB SSD, Bluetooth, and USB-A plus USB-C. Inspect the configuration carefully.
- $600–$900: This is the strongest value range for most Cricut users. It includes capable IdeaPad, Inspiron, Swift, and entry premium models.
- $900–$1,300: You are primarily buying portability, display quality, build quality, battery life, and flexibility.
- Over $1,300: Spend this much only when you also need professional creative applications, a larger premium display, more storage, or a particularly thin and well-built computer.
Do not pay for 32GB RAM, 2TB storage, a dedicated GPU, or a gaming processor solely to run Design Space. Those upgrades are worthwhile only for your other workloads.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Before you start: installation and connection
- Confirm that the laptop runs supported Windows or macOS and is not in Windows S Mode.
- Download Design Space from Cricut’s official installation page.
- Install the app and sign in with your Cricut ID. Internet is required for downloading and signing in.
- Connect the machine through Bluetooth or USB and follow the setup prompts for your model.
- Update Design Space and the laptop’s operating system when prompted.
- Save projects frequently. Cricut’s desktop app does not auto-save, so save before quitting.
If Design Space says the operating system is unsupported
Cricut documents a compatibility-mode fix for Windows:
- Right-click the Design Space icon.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Uncheck Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Close and reopen Design Space.
If Bluetooth fails, check that Bluetooth is enabled, move the laptop closer to the machine, disconnect the machine from another device, update drivers, and keep USB available as a fallback. If a large SVG remains slow on a powerful laptop, the issue may be excessive nodes, too many layers, or an oversized raster image rather than the laptop itself.
Offline use and Cricut Access
Cricut says Design Space for desktop and iOS has an Offline feature. You still need internet to download and install the app, sign in, and use some search functions. Android currently does not have an Offline feature. If you work at craft fairs, workshops, or locations with unreliable internet, download and prepare projects before leaving.
A Cricut machine does not require a subscription. Design Space includes free content, while Cricut Access is optional paid content and subscription access. A more expensive laptop does not unlock Cricut Access or improve your content entitlement. See Cricut’s subscription FAQ.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFinal buying checklist
- Is the laptop Windows 10 or later, or running a currently supported macOS version?
- Is it definitely not a Chromebook, Linux system, Unix computer, or Windows S Mode device?
- Does it have 16GB RAM, or at least 8GB if the budget is tight?
- Does it use an SSD, preferably 512GB?
- Does it offer Bluetooth and USB-C data, USB-A, or a realistic hub solution?
- Is the screen comfortable for detailed SVGs and images?
- Have you checked the exact processor architecture, especially on Windows ARM laptops?
- Does the price still make sense after adding a hub or adapter if needed?
- Are you buying enough laptop for your other applications, not just Design Space?
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Cricut Design Space on a Chromebook?
No. Cricut does not support Design Space on ChromeOS. Choose a supported Windows or Mac laptop instead.
Is 4GB RAM enough for Cricut?
It meets Cricut’s listed minimum, but 16GB is the better target for Design Space alongside browsers, Canva, photo tools, and file management.
Does Cricut need a dedicated graphics card?
No. Integrated graphics are sufficient for ordinary Design Space work. A dedicated GPU is useful only for other demanding tasks such as gaming, 3D, or professional video editing.
Is Mac or Windows better for Cricut?
Both are officially supported. Windows offers more hardware and port choices; Mac offers simple, quiet hardware and strong Apple-device integration.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Can I use an iPad instead of a laptop?
Cricut supports qualified iOS and Android devices, but a laptop is generally easier for file organization, SVG uploads, fonts, multitasking, and external storage.
Does Cricut Design Space require Cricut Access?
No. Cricut Access is optional. The machine and Design Space can be used without that subscription.
Can Design Space work offline?
Desktop and iOS versions have an Offline feature, but internet is still needed for downloading, installing, signing in, and some search functions.
What ports should a Cricut laptop have?
Bluetooth is useful for wireless connections. USB-C data and preferably USB-A provide flexibility for cables and accessories. A USB-C data hub can add missing ports.
