To use an Apple-themed image in PowerPoint or as a Windows wallpaper, choose an image licensed for that specific use, then prepare it for the screen it will fill. A picture being easy to download does not make it free to redistribute or use commercially. The safest routes are Microsoft 365 images kept inside a presentation, a clearly licensed standalone image, or an original Apple-inspired design that does not copy Apple artwork or marks.
What counts as an Apple wallpaper?
The phrase can describe several different kinds of images, and their rights are not interchangeable:
- Official Apple wallpapers: Images Apple distributes for its products or through Apple-owned channels. Public availability is not blanket permission to redistribute, sell, or use them in advertising.
- Apple product photos: Images showing an iPhone, Mac, or other Apple hardware. A photographer’s license may cover the photo but not necessarily Apple’s product imagery, trade dress, or implied endorsement.
- Apple-logo wallpapers: These carry particular risk in commercial or promotional contexts. Apple says use of its logo and graphic symbols may require express written permission.
- Apple-inspired artwork: Original gradients, metallic textures, or abstract forms that evoke a minimalist technology look without copying Apple assets. Describe these as “Apple-inspired” rather than official Apple wallpapers.

Can you use an Apple wallpaper legally?
It depends on the image, its license, and what you plan to do with it. Personal desktop customization, a presentation shared with an audience, a commercial template, and a downloadable wallpaper pack are different uses. “Free to download” does not by itself mean “free to reuse.” This is practical guidance, not legal advice.
- Private desktop: Check the source’s terms even for personal use; personal use is not an automatic exemption from copyright or license restrictions.
- Presentation: Confirm that the license allows the image to appear in a presentation, especially if the deck will be published, sold, or used in marketing.
- Commercial template or wallpaper pack: You are distributing the image or an asset containing it. Obtain a license that expressly covers that distribution; permission to place an image in a presentation is not necessarily permission to extract and resell it.
Microsoft says its Microsoft 365 creative content can generally be used within Microsoft 365 documents and presentations, including commercial presentations, subject to the applicable license. That does not grant a general standalone license to extract an image and reuse it elsewhere. See Microsoft’s creative-content usage guidance.
For Apple marks and product images, rights to the photograph and rights to Apple intellectual property are separate. Apple’s guidance describes limited conditions for depicting genuine products to communicate compatibility; it is not general permission to use Apple-owned marketing photography or imply Apple sponsorship.

Where to find an image for your intended use

Microsoft 365 image library
This is a convenient option when the image will stay inside a PowerPoint deck or another Microsoft 365 file. Microsoft’s terms distinguish that use from extracting the asset for a Windows wallpaper, website hero, or other standalone purpose.
Bing Image Search
Use license filters only to discover candidates. Microsoft advises checking the original source and its license rather than assuming a search result is reusable. Open the source page, identify the rights holder, read the terms for your exact use, and keep a copy of the license information.

Unsplash
The Unsplash license permits downloading, copying, modifying, distributing, and commercial use of images subject to its terms and restrictions. That license addresses the photograph; it does not automatically clear Apple trademarks, Apple-owned artwork, product imagery, or endorsement and publicity-rights concerns.
Original or commissioned artwork
An original gradient or abstract technology background can be tailored to the slide or monitor rather than cropped from a phone wallpaper. For paid stock or commissioned work, check whether the license covers commercial presentations, templates, and redistribution as a wallpaper file; permissions can differ by asset and license.

How to add the image as a PowerPoint background
PowerPoint desktop
- Open the presentation and select Design > Format Background.
- Choose Picture or texture fill.
- Under Picture Source, select Insert, then choose a source such as From a File, Stock Images, or Online Pictures, depending on your version.
- Adjust transparency if the image competes with slide text.
- Select Apply to All if the background should appear on every slide.

PowerPoint for the web
- Open Design > Background.
- Select Insert Picture, then choose From Device or Stock Pictures.
- Select the image and choose Apply to All if appropriate.
PowerPoint for the web resizes the image to fill the slide as best it can. Microsoft recommends matching the image orientation to the presentation; see change the background of slides.
Use Slide Master for a recurring design
- Choose View > Slide Master.
- Select the top-level master or the specific layout that needs the background.
- Choose Background Styles > Format Background, then Picture or texture fill.
- Insert the image, adjust transparency, and close Slide Master view.
This is useful when the image must persist across selected layouts. Microsoft’s instructions are at add the same image or watermark to every slide.
Insert and crop it as a picture instead
For more precise positioning, use Insert > Pictures > This Device, resize the image to cover the slide, and adjust it with Picture Format > Crop. Send it behind other elements and add a translucent panel behind text if needed. Microsoft documents picture insertion at insert a picture in PowerPoint.

How to set it as a Windows desktop background
Settings names can vary by Windows release and configuration, but the usual route is:
- Download the image to your computer.
- Right-click an empty area of the desktop and choose Personalize.
- Open Background and set the background type to Picture.
- Choose Browse or Browse photos, then select the downloaded file.
- Choose the fit that best suits the screen: Fill, Fit, Stretch, Tile, Center, or Span, where available.
For a shortcut, find the image in File Explorer, right-click it, and choose Set as desktop background. On multiple monitors, check display arrangement and resolution: one panoramic image can span displays, while separate images can be assigned independently where Windows offers that option.
Choose a size and composition that fit
For PowerPoint
Widescreen 16:9 is a standard PowerPoint slide-size option. Prepare a landscape composition for a widescreen deck rather than stretching a portrait phone wallpaper across it. Microsoft’s slide-size guidance is at change the size of PowerPoint slides.
- Use a source large enough to cover the slide without visible pixelation; avoid enlarging a preview thumbnail.
- Keep a low-detail area for titles and body text.
- Use white text over a dark image and dark text over a light image; add a translucent panel if the image is busy.
- Move a prominent logo or product detail away from the title area, and do not put essential text over a high-contrast focal point.
- Use a portrait image as a side panel or crop it deliberately instead of distorting it.
For Windows
Start with the native resolution and aspect ratio of the monitor where the wallpaper will appear. Ultrawide, portrait, and mixed-resolution displays may crop a conventional 16:9 image differently. Consider where desktop icons and the taskbar sit, since they can obscure a logo or focal detail.
Fill preserves proportions but crops edges to cover the screen. Fit preserves proportions but may leave unused space. Stretch fills the screen but can distort the image. Use Span for a panoramic multi-monitor setup only when the image composition and monitor arrangement suit it.
Fix blur, cropping, or unreadable text
- Wallpaper looks blurry: Find a larger original and avoid enlarging a thumbnail or screenshot of a preview.
- PowerPoint crops the subject: Match the image orientation to the slide, reposition it with Crop controls, or use a side-panel layout for a portrait image. The web version may resize a background to fill the slide, so mismatched orientations can crop unexpectedly.
- Text disappears against the image: Increase background transparency, place a translucent overlay behind text, darken or blur the picture, or move the text to a quieter area. Desktop PowerPoint provides transparency controls for background pictures.
- The background appears on only one slide: Choose Apply to All, or set it on the Slide Master or relevant layout.
- You need to remove the image: If it is a normal picture object, select and delete it; Microsoft also documents removal through the Selection Pane at delete a picture in PowerPoint. If it is a background, return to Format Background and choose a solid fill or reset the background.
- Windows stretches the wallpaper: Change the fit to Fill, Fit, Center, or Span, or choose an image made for that monitor’s aspect ratio.
Safer alternatives to Apple-logo wallpapers
If the goal is a clean, Apple-adjacent look rather than a specific Apple asset, use an original gradient, geometric design, metallic texture, or product-agnostic technology photograph. For commercial material, choose artwork whose license clearly covers the planned use and avoid Apple’s logo, copied product photography, and language or design that suggests official status or endorsement.
