Build the voice and sound effects as separate audio layers: use an AI voice only with the speaker’s informed permission, confirm the tool’s terms for your intended release, and add effects you recorded yourself or have permission to use. The listed voice tools describe voice generation or conversion, but none establishes AI sound-effect generation; check any sound-effect tool’s features and terms on its own site before using it.
Plan The Voice And Sound Layers
Decide what the voice needs to do before choosing a tool: deliver new scripted narration, transform a recorded performance, or create a synthetic singing part. Write down the intended audience and release context, then get the speaker’s permission for the specific use. If you will clone or train from someone’s voice, get permission for that use of their recordings as well.
Keep sound effects in a separate layer from the voice. Build The Audio In Separate Passes
- Write the performance. Mark the exact words, pauses, emotion, and intended delivery. For example: “The door is open.” Then note “quiet, uncertain; pause after ‘door’.” Treat these as direction for the performance, not as a claim that every tool accepts text prompts.
- Choose an authorized source voice. Use your own voice, a voice you have permission to use, or a tool-provided voice whose terms cover your intended project. For a cloned or trained voice, confirm the speaker agreed to that use of their recordings. Do not assume a model or reference recording is authorized because it is available online.

Do not present a synthetic or converted voice as a real person’s authentic recording without clear permission and context.
- Add sound effects as their own layer. Use an effect you recorded or one whose source terms allow your planned use. Keep it separate while editing so you can adjust its timing and level without obscuring the voice. For instance, place a short fabric movement after the line rather than over a key word. - Record where each sound effect came from and the permission or terms that apply.
- Keep any required attribution with the project files; Altered Studio’s listed free plan specifies an attribution license.
That record helps you keep the voice and effects traceable through revisions and publication. Recheck vendor and source terms if the project’s use changes.
