You can make an AI cover that uses an artist-like voice only when you have the necessary permissions. Two separate issues matter: the song’s composition remains copyrighted, and imitating a real singer’s voice can raise likeness and publicity-rights concerns. Permission to use a voice does not by itself clear the song, and a cover license does not by itself authorize voice imitation.
What Rights Apply To An AI Voice Cover?
The Song’s Composition
Changing the lead vocal while keeping a song’s melody, timing, or instrumental does not make the underlying composition yours. A cover of someone else’s song generally needs a license to be published or monetized. Platforms such as YouTube may match covers through Content ID and route revenue to rights holders. The Singer’s Identity
Cloning or imitating a specific real artist’s voice raises a separate likeness and publicity-rights concern. Get authorization before making or sharing an identifiable imitation. If you do not have it, describe vocal qualities without naming a celebrity—for example, “warm low register, breathy phrasing, and a restrained soul delivery.” A broad style description is not a guarantee that a result is authorized or non-identifying.

The Audio You Upload
For a custom voice model, submit only voice audio you own or are authorized to use. That instruction is explicit in Online Vocal Remover AI Song Cover’s guidance. You should also check each service’s current terms for the audio you upload, the generated output, and any intended release.

How To Make A Cover Without Naming An Unapproved Artist
- Choose a song you are allowed to cover. Identify the composition and check what permissions are needed for your planned publication or monetization.
- Choose an authorized voice source. Use your own voice, a voice you have permission to use, or a non-identifying vocal brief. Do not upload someone else’s vocal audio for a custom model without authorization.
- Describe musical behavior, not a celebrity. For example: “Keep the original melody and phrasing; use a clear mid-range lead, gentle vibrato at phrase endings, and a close, intimate delivery.” Keep the requested vocal distinct from any real singer you have not been authorized to imitate.
- Review the result and release plan. Check whether the vocal sounds like an identifiable person, then verify the tool’s terms and the destination platform’s disclosure and rights requirements before sharing or monetizing it.

What Should You Check Before Publishing?
- Composition: Confirm the permissions needed for the song and the way you plan to release or monetize the cover.
- Voice: Make sure you have authorization for any voice audio used to create a model and for any identifiable real-person imitation.
- Tool terms: Check the vendor’s current terms for uploads, generated outputs, commercial use, and any applicable attribution or disclosure rules. The listed commercial terms differ between these two tools.
- Platform rules: Spotify said in September 2025 that vocal impersonation is allowed only when the impersonated artist has authorized it, and that it supports DDEX AI disclosures in credits. In August 2026, it announced an “AI Persona” badge for artist identities that may be AI-generated. Check the destination platform’s current policies before upload: these announcements do not clear a song or grant voice permission. These tools can revoice a song, but their features do not establish that a particular voice imitation is authorized or that a composition is cleared. When either permission or a relevant term is unclear, check with the rights holder or the service before publishing.
