There is no single best UV DTF printer. The right machine depends on whether you need dedicated roll production, compact sheet-based transfers, direct-to-object printing, or a combination of workflows. For continuous UV DTF production, the purpose-built Mimaki UJV300DTF-75 is the clearest choice. For small businesses, Roland’s VersaSTUDIO BD-8 offers the most compact professional entry point, while the Epson SureColor V1070 has the lowest currently displayed U.S. hardware price among the five reviewed here. Larger desktop and hybrid work favor the Roland BD-12 and VersaOBJECT MO-180.
This guide separates dedicated UV DTF equipment from ordinary UV flatbeds, explains the complete film workflow, and shows the costs and limitations that product listings often leave out.

What UV DTF printing actually is
UV DTF creates a transfer for hard or non-textile objects. The printer lays UV-curable ink onto an A-film. A B-film is then laminated over the printed image, creating a carrier-and-adhesive transfer that can be applied later.
- Print the mirrored artwork and any required white, clear or primer layers onto UV DTF A-film.
- Laminate the compatible B-film over the printed A-film.
- Prepare the target surface and position the laminated transfer.
- Press or squeegee the transfer onto the object.
- Peel the carrier film according to the film maker’s specified sequence.
Peel direction, pressure and dwell time vary by film system. Follow the specific A/B-film instructions rather than assuming one universal application method.
UV DTF versus direct-to-object UV
Direct-to-object UV cures ink directly on the product. It is efficient for flat items or objects that can be held accurately in a jig. UV DTF moves the printing step to film, so the finished image can be applied to curved, recessed or ornate products that are difficult to place under a printhead. Roland specifically cites uneven surfaces, rounded corners, extended lips and ornate objects as UV DTF use cases: Roland UV DTF transfer system.
UV DTF versus textile DTF
Textile DTF is a garment process using textile ink, powder, curing and a heat press. UV DTF uses UV-curable ink and transfer film for hard goods. A garment DTF printer is not a UV DTF printer simply because both names contain “DTF.”

The five best UV DTF printer choices
1. Mimaki UJV300DTF-75 — best dedicated production system
Mimaki describes the UJV300DTF-75 as its first purpose-built UV-DTF printer. The U.S. product information specifies a maximum media width of 650 mm (25.6 inches), with CMYK, white and clear channels and flexible and hard UV-curable ink types. See the Mimaki product page and specification sheet.
Choose it for: Transfer specialists, print providers and shops with enough recurring volume to justify roll production.
Why it stands out: Roll media handling and a dedicated UV DTF design reduce the sheet-loading and manual batching burden of desktop flatbeds. Flexible and hard ink options address different transfer requirements.

2. Roland VersaSTUDIO BD-8 — best compact professional option
The BD-8 is officially compatible with Roland’s UV DTF transfer system. Its published print area is 5.8 × 8.3 inches, with four inches of head height. Roland lists a U.S. MSRP of $10,995 on its UV DTF system page. Ink configurations are CMYK with white plus either primer or gloss, according to Roland’s BD-series information.
Choose it for: Keychains, phone cases, small plaques, promotional items and product testing where direct UV printing is also valuable.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Compact footprint and an officially supported UV DTF workflow.
- White ink for dark and transparent designs.
- Primer or gloss configuration options.
- Smaller capital requirement than industrial roll equipment.
The A5-class bed limits transfer size and the number of graphics per sheet. It is not a roll-to-roll production line, and $10,995 covers the printer MSRP rather than film, shipping, installation, service or working capital.
Skip it if: Your core business requires continuous wide-roll transfer production or large graphics.
3. Roland VersaSTUDIO BD-12 — best larger desktop Roland
The BD-12 expands the published print size to 8.3 × 12 inches while retaining four inches of head height. Roland lists a U.S. MSRP of $15,995 on the same UV DTF system page.
Choose it for: Shops that have outgrown A5-size work and need to batch several small designs without moving to a roll printer.

The larger platen creates more usable sheet area, but it does not automatically double output; speed depends on artwork, pass count, white and clear layers, media handling and curing. Confirm current package contents, software, ink configuration, warranty and dealer support before ordering.
Skip it if: Most revenue comes from uninterrupted roll-based transfer production rather than desktop personalization.
4. Epson SureColor V1070 — best value-oriented hybrid flatbed
Epson lists the V1070 as an A4 desktop UV flatbed with white ink and gloss or matte varnish. Its U.S. product page currently displays an “Our Price” of $9,299: Epson SureColor V1070. Epson’s September 2024 launch announcement listed an original $8,495 MSRP, so that launch figure should not be presented as today’s price: Epson launch announcement.
Epson describes a UV DTFilm workflow in which the printer produces the film image, a transfer film is pressed or laminated over it, and the result is applied to curved or rounded surfaces: Epson UV printers for makers. The user guide lists maximum resolution of 1,440 × 1,440 dpi and says the printer is designed for Epson ink packs only.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Choose it for: Makers and small promotional-product shops whose main need is compact direct-to-object UV printing with occasional transfer-film work.
- Six-color output with white and varnish choices.
- Built-in white-ink circulation and nozzle-verification features.
- Epson Edge Print PRO is included according to Epson materials.
- Lower displayed hardware price than the BD-12 and MO-180.
The A4 area is smaller than larger desktop beds, and this is not a dedicated roll-to-roll UV DTF press. Epson says the printer is intended for hard substrates, not textiles such as T-shirts or very bendable materials. Test the exact film, coating and substrate combination before selling it. Epson also recommends a well-ventilated workspace and lists activated-carbon air filters; filtration does not remove the need for safe installation.
Skip it if: You need open-ink flexibility, wide transfer media or high-volume dedicated UV DTF production.
5. Roland VersaOBJECT MO-180 — best larger benchtop hybrid
The MO-180 is an 18 × 18-inch benchtop UV flatbed with up to eight inches of head height and compatibility with Roland’s UV DTF system. Roland lists a U.S. MSRP of $28,495: Roland UV DTF system information.

Buying criteria that matter more than headline DPI
Workflow and media handling
Confirm whether the machine prints directly onto objects, onto A-film, or both; whether a laminator is separate; and whether film loading is manual, sheet-based or roll-fed. A flatbed that can print film is not equivalent to a dedicated UV DTF line.

Area, batching and fixturing
Compare usable image area, border requirements, object height, jig support and unattended sheet capacity. Published reference sizes range from the BD-8’s 5.8 × 8.3 inches to the MO-180’s 18 × 18 inches and Mimaki’s 650 mm media width.
Ink channels and white management
White is important on dark and transparent work; clear or gloss enables premium effects; primer can improve adhesion on selected surfaces. Also check white-ink circulation, nozzle checks, automatic cleaning, purge consumption and whether flexible or hard ink is appropriate.
Film, adhesion and substrate testing
The machine, A-film, B-film, ink and substrate form one system. Test coated and uncoated plastics, acrylic, glass, metal, wood, ceramics, leather and powder-coated surfaces. Silicone and low-surface-energy plastics are frequent problem cases. Use the buyer’s real cleaning method, curvature and handling conditions in the test.
Laminator and consumables
Budget for A-film, B-film, laminator, squeegees, cleaning fluid, waste handling and storage. Roland’s U.S. listing shows A print sheets at $90.99 for 25 sheets and B transfer film at $63.99 for an 82-foot roll; these are reference prices, not universal market rates. Mimaki’s competitive material lists UV DTF Film AB at $499 for one configuration and $9,500 for a 20-set pallet, demonstrating why pack size and region must be compared: Mimaki competitive overview.

Software and color management
Verify the included RIP, white-layer generation, clear or gloss spot channels, mirroring, ICC profiles, variable-data support, jig printing and operating-system compatibility. Epson identifies Epson Edge Print PRO as included with the V1070. Do not assume software from another Mimaki flatbed, such as RasterLink7 on the UJF-6042 MkII e, is bundled with the UJV300DTF-75; confirm the exact package for the model and region.
Maintenance and service
Ask about daily and periodic nozzle checks, white-ink circulation, capping-station care, printhead replacement, UV-lamp service, waste-ink handling, film-feed alignment and technician response. Automatic cleaning reduces effort but does not make an idle UV printer maintenance-free.
Safety and workspace
Plan ventilation, UV-ink and cleaning-fluid handling, electrical capacity, ambient temperature and humidity, clearance and waste storage. A carbon filter or low-odor claim is not permission to install a UV printer in an unventilated bedroom, retail counter or food-preparation area.
Calculate the real investment
Use a worksheet rather than a headline-price comparison:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Printer and any stand or platen accessories
- Shipping, rigging, installation and training
- RIP or other software
- A-film, B-film and laminator
- Ink, cleaning solution and replacement parts
- Ventilation or filtration
- Service contract and warranty extensions
- Test blanks, spoilage and labor
- Financing and working-capital cost
For a simple break-even model, calculate: required monthly gross profit = monthly fixed ownership cost + expected maintenance and consumables cost. Then compare that figure with realistic orders, selling prices, material usage, labor, spoilage and taxes. A payback period cannot be stated responsibly without those inputs.
Common failure modes
Transfer will not stick
Check cleaning, coating, surface energy, film compatibility, application pressure, sharp radii, flexibility and adhesive contact area. Increasing UV exposure does not automatically fix an adhesive or surface-preparation problem.
White ink is weak or uneven
Inspect nozzles, circulation, white-layer settings, print order, film orientation and RIP channel mapping. Settled white ink and partial nozzle loss can change opacity dramatically.
Gloss or clear effects are absent
Confirm that the clear channel is installed, the RIP contains the correct spot-clear data and the selected effect is gloss, matte or texture as intended. Viewing angle and film surface can make subtle clear effects difficult to see.

The printer sits unused
Infrequent use is particularly risky for white ink and UV systems. If you expect only a few jobs each month, compare outsourcing, a service-bureau partnership or a supported machine with documented low-use maintenance procedures.
Mistakes to avoid
- Buying a textile DTF printer for hard-product transfers.
- Assuming every UV flatbed is a dedicated UV DTF production machine.
- Choosing by maximum DPI instead of adhesion, white consistency, curing, throughput and service.
- Using a launch price as though it were today’s price.
- Ignoring the laminator, film and maintenance budget.
- Skipping a sample test on the exact substrate and coating.
- Assuming a transfer is permanent on every material or in every environment.
- Buying a small bed for order volumes it cannot batch efficiently.
Final recommendations
Choose the Mimaki UJV300DTF-75 when UV DTF transfer production is the business and a roll workflow justifies professional installation. Choose the Roland BD-8 for compact, small-batch professional work, or the BD-12 when you need more desktop batching. Choose the Epson V1070 when direct-to-object UV printing is primary and UV DTFilm is an additional capability. Choose the Roland MO-180 when a larger direct-print bed and taller objects matter more than minimum entry cost. If demand is still uncertain, outsourcing is often the financially safer first step.
