Lumi left Shark Tank without a deal, shifted from its Inkodye sun-printing craft kit to e-commerce packaging, and was acquired by Narvar in 2021. The company Jesse Genet pitched was a fabric-printing business—not the similarly named Lumio or LuminAID.
What Lumi brought to the show
Lumi’s original product was Inkodye, a light-sensitive ink used to make photographic prints on natural fabrics with sunlight. The idea turned sunlight into part of the printing process: users arranged an image and exposed the treated fabric to light to create a print. Shark Tank Blog and Shark Tank Tales describe the product as a sun-printing kit for fabric.

For painters and printmakers, the product’s appeal was its unusual process: rather than relying on a conventional press, the kit used sunlight to develop an image on fabric. It was a consumer craft product, not the packaging business Lumi later became.
Why Lumi left Shark Tank without a deal
Jesse Genet asked the Sharks for $250,000 in exchange for 5% of the company, according to Shark Tank Blog and Shark Tank Tales. Shark Tank Blog’s recap says Genet described $1 million in sales, with minimal profits because the business was reinvesting. The Sharks challenged the valuation and questioned the product’s broader appeal.

Shark Tank Blog reports that Kevin O’Leary proposed either $250,000 for 50% or a loan-and-equity arrangement, while Robert Herjavec offered $250,000 for 15%. O’Leary and Lori Greiner also discussed a joint loan offer. Genet did not accept the proposed terms, so Lumi left without an investment. These negotiation details come from an independent recap, not an official episode transcript.
How Lumi changed after the show
After the appearance, Lumi moved away from the consumer Inkodye kit and toward packaging for businesses. Shark Tank Blog says Genet and co-founder Steph Ango refocused the company on packaging about three months after the show. Shark Tank Tales describes the later business as a packaging procurement platform for e-commerce brands.

Narvar’s acquisition announcement characterized Lumi as a digital marketplace connecting packaging manufacturers with brands, with tools to help brands make packaging decisions and manage procurement. The business model had changed from selling an individual craft product to helping companies source packaging.
| Stage | What Lumi did |
|---|---|
| Original business | Sold an Inkodye sun-printing kit for making images on natural fabrics. |
| Later business | Connected brands and packaging manufacturers through a marketplace and packaging decision and procurement tools. |
| After acquisition | Narvar announced it had acquired Lumi on December 15, 2021. |
Narvar acquired Lumi in 2021

That acquisition is the best-supported endpoint for Lumi as an independent company. The original craft kit was not the business Narvar acquired; Lumi had become a packaging marketplace and procurement operation. The acquisition announcement quoted Lumi CEO and co-founder Jesse Genet saying, “Lumi is joining forces with Narvar as ecommerce packaging hits the mainstream consciousness.”

Inkodye is the product that made Lumi distinctive on the show: a way to make photographic fabric prints using sunlight. The available sources establish its role in Lumi’s original business, but do not establish its current availability. Shark Tank Blog mentioned Amazon as a sales option when its page was updated; that historical reference does not confirm a live listing today.
