There is no verified, sourced list of Gary Larson’s best Santa Claus and Christmas-themed Far Side panels in the available material. Naming specific strips, captions, or publication dates without checking an authorized copy would risk getting them wrong. The selections below therefore cannot responsibly be supplied as a roundup; here is what readers can verify and where to look for the seasonal panels.
Why there isn’t a reliable “best of” list here
“Best” is a matter of taste, not an official ranking. A fair selection could weigh seasonal detail, how clearly the joke works, how distinctive its premise is, and whether the panel and its date can be confirmed. But the sources available for this article do not identify particular Santa or Christmas strips, reproduce their captions, or establish their original publication dates. Without verification in an authorized collection or on the official site, a named shortlist would be guesswork.

What is established about The Far Side
Gary Larson’s single-panel comic ran in newspapers from January 1980 through January 1995, according to the official site’s About description. Andrews McMeel Publishing describes The Complete Far Side as containing every syndicated cartoon—more than 4,000 in all—arranged more or less chronologically by publication year. The publisher also says more than 1,100 had not appeared in a book before. It is a broad archive, not a Christmas-only collection.
Where to browse seasonal panels
The official site
Andrews McMeel Universal described TheFarSide.com as the only official website in a December 17, 2019 announcement. At launch, the company described a Daily Dose, weekly themed collections, sketches and doodles, and periodic new work by Larson. The official site’s About description also refers to daily selections and weekly themed collections. Those are dated descriptions, not a guarantee that every feature or access arrangement remains unchanged; check the live site for what is currently available.
#1 Best Overall
The Complete Far Side
The publisher lists a 2003 hardcover edition (ISBN 9780740721137) and a 2014 paperback edition (ISBN 9781449460044), each with 1,272 pages. The publisher’s description makes this a way to browse Larson’s work broadly, rather than a seasonal anthology; confirm any particular panel in the edition before citing it. For a dependable list, each entry needs a panel checked against an authorized source, its exact caption, and its original publication date. Then readers can compare strips on their seasonal specificity—Santa, gifts, a tree, reindeer, or another holiday setting—along with the distinctiveness and clarity of the joke. An unattributed repost or social-media caption is not enough to establish what Larson published or when.
