The name Show-Off Bag refers to more than one sewing project. The Whistlepig Creek Productions pattern is a digital PDF download (with a separate printed-paper edition listed by Linda’s), while the AllPeopleQuilt project is a distinct adaptation. They do not finish at the same dimensions, so choose the version before buying fabric or cutting stabilizer.
Which Show-Off Bag pattern is this?
The primary commercial pattern is Whistlepig Creek Productions’ Show-Off Bag sewing pattern. It is sold as a PDF digital download; a separate retailer, Linda’s, lists a printed paper edition. The AllPeopleQuilt version is a project adaptation with its own materials, construction details, and finished size.

What the Whistlepig Creek bag is like
The Whistlepig Creek/Linda’s specification finishes at 18 inches wide, 12 inches high, and 6 inches deep, making it the larger of the two documented versions. Its stated storage layout is six inside pockets plus two outside hidden pockets. Linda’s additionally describes two side outside pockets and an optional top zipper, so check the exact edition’s instructions for the closure and pocket-sewing sequence.

What the AllPeopleQuilt project makes
AllPeopleQuilt presents its Show-Off Bag as a way to “Showcase a large-scale print on a roomy bag you can grab and go.” That project finishes at 11 × 13 × 6 inches. Do not substitute this measurement for the 18 × 12 × 6-inch Whistlepig Creek listing: the two projects are related by name but are not dimensionally identical.

Construction outline for the AllPeopleQuilt adaptation
- Stabilize and quilt the outer unit. Layer the outer fabric with the heavyweight stabilizer or batting, then quilt the assembly as directed.
- Make the handles. Cut two 4 × 32-inch strips and construct the two 1-inch-wide handles.
- Assemble the bag body. Sew the stabilized outer body and prepare the lining according to the project instructions.
- Box the corners. Shape and sew the boxed corners to create the stated 6-inch depth.
- Finish the edge. Turn and complete the opening, adding the optional topstitch described by the project.
How to choose the right version
- Choose the Whistlepig Creek pattern if you want the documented 18 × 12 × 6-inch size, the six interior pockets, hidden exterior pockets, and the option of a top zipper.
- Choose the AllPeopleQuilt project if you want the 11 × 13 × 6-inch adaptation and its specified large-scale-print materials list, including a 23 × 31-inch piece of heavyweight stabilizer or batting.
- Choose a PDF when immediate digital access and home printing suit you; choose the separately listed paper edition when you prefer a physical pattern.
Before cutting fabric
- Confirm the publisher and edition on the product page.
- Write the finished dimensions on your cutting notes so the 18 × 12 × 6 and 11 × 13 × 6 versions cannot be confused.
- Verify whether your edition includes the optional zipper and which pocket pieces are included.
- Buy stabilizer by the requirements of that specific version; the 23 × 31-inch heavyweight piece is the AllPeopleQuilt specification.
- If using a directional or large-scale print, audition the placement before cutting the body and handle pieces.
