Krita 5.2.10 is a bug-fix release published on 2 July 2025, not a major feature update. It addressed issues involving animation, transforms, saving, crashes, canvas navigation and palettes. The release also changed how Krita handles function keys above F12. Since newer Krita versions have since been released, 5.2.10 is now an archived maintenance milestone rather than the current version.
What did Krita 5.2.10 fix?
The release notes cover practical workflow and stability problems across several parts of Krita. The most relevant fixes include:
- Animation: changing a raster layer’s opacity now clears the animation cache correctly; animated transform-mask values no longer scale incorrectly; and onion skins can be reset correctly.
- Transforms and canvas navigation: transform-tool previews work after layers are reordered, rulers respond better during canvas transformations, and panning is more responsive.
- Saving and crashes: TIFF files are no longer appended again when saved, autosaving extremely large files no longer triggers the reported crashes, and a clipboard-related crash was fixed.
- Canvas and interface behavior: resetting canvas size while toggling preserve-aspect-ratio behaves correctly, and status-bar performance was improved.
- Palettes and file handling: fixes address OpenRaster group-layer defaults, Adobe Color Book palette naming, palette-file group handling, and brush previews on a mirrored canvas.
These are maintenance fixes, not a feature list: the release focuses on correcting existing behavior across animation, transforms, file I/O, navigation and resource handling. The complete list is in the Krita 5.2.10 release announcement.
Is Krita 5.2.10 a major feature update?
No. The Krita project described 5.2.10 as “a bug fix release” when it announced the version on 2 July 2025. The announcement said development would then focus on Krita 5.3.0, the next feature release, and Krita 6.0.0, the first release based on Qt6. Those were the project’s stated plans at the time; they do not make 5.2.10 itself a feature release. Read the announcement.

Should you update to Krita 5.2.10?
If you are already using the 5.2 series and encounter one of the listed problems, 5.2.10 may address it. However, it is no longer the latest Krita release: KDE’s version listing includes 5.2.15, published 28 January 2026, and Krita’s product site lists later 5.3.x releases. For a new installation or a general update, check the current official download page rather than treating 5.2.10 as the current recommendation.
If you specifically need 5.2.10—for example, to reproduce a particular setup or keep a known version—use its archived release files and verify that your operating system meets the requirements below.

Why is Krita ignoring my F22 key?
Starting with 5.2.10, Krita ignores function keys higher than F12 by default. The project says this change prevents unintended high-numbered keypresses—such as a spurious F22 sent by WeChat to get focus—from being handled as input.

If your hardware intentionally sends keys above F12 and you need Krita to recognize them, add ignoreHighFunctionKeys=false to your kritarc configuration file. The release note documents this override but does not specify a universal file path; its location depends on the system and Krita configuration.

Where 5.2.10 sits in Krita’s release history
Krita 5.2.10 was a maintenance release in the 5.2 series. It is now superseded by later releases: KDE lists 5.2.15 dated 28 January 2026, while Krita’s product site lists releases in the 5.3 series. The project’s KDE stable-release directory and Krita product site show the available release lines. Use 5.2.10 when you specifically need that archived version, not as a synonym for the newest Krita.
