Matchitecture is a model-building hobby in which small, purpose-made wooden microbeams—also called matchsticks by the brand—are cut and glued into miniature buildings, vehicles and other subjects. Builders form flat sections from the beams, then join the sections to make a three-dimensional model.
What is Matchitecture?
Matchitecture is the name of a model-building technique and kit line built around small wooden microbeams. They are not ordinary household matches: the brand describes them as purpose-made beams, and a retailer describes the sticks as having no match heads.
The official catalog groups its kits into Junior, Starter and Deluxe lines. It also lists a 2,000-microbeam refill. How do you build a Matchitecture model?
A retailer’s description outlines a process of cutting and gluing the microbeams into flat sections over a plan, then joining those sections to form the finished three-dimensional model. An acetate sheet protects the plan while you work. The technique depends on careful cutting and gluing rather than assembling preformed plastic pieces.
The retailer says kits include microbeams, a cutter, glue, tweezers, an assembly board, an acetate sheet and plans. Contents may differ by kit, so confirm the specific box or listing before buying.

Who created Matchitecture?
The official creator page identifies Roland Quinton as the creator of Matchitecture and recounts his early interest in building with wooden matches and corks before developing the technique and its tooling. Family Games America is identified as the fabricator and distributor; the official contact page names Jouets Family Games America as the manufacturer and distributor contact.
Quinton describes the appeal this way: “I created Matchitecture because, for me, building with microbeams is very exciting.”
