Printable vintage can labels are usually downloadable JPGs or PDFs—not labels mailed to you. Choose a design, check its dimensions and usage terms against your actual can or project, then print at the specified scale, cut it out, and attach it with tape or adhesive. The fit and permission terms vary by file, so check each listing rather than assuming one template or license works for every project.
Where to find printable vintage can labels
Free printables and paid downloads cover subjects such as fruit, vegetables, coffee, meat, and other pantry goods. Examples include a marketplace download with five JPG sheets and ten labels, and a separate PDF set of fifteen replica 1940s- and WWII-style designs. These are digital files; the PaperNurture listing explicitly says no physical item ships.
For a free starting point, Knick of Time’s April 16, 2014 post shares three fruit-label printables based on 1920s tin fruit cans. Printablee also lists template themes ranging from tea and spices to fruit, soup, vegetables, pet food, and oil cans. Treat those descriptions as examples from a secondary resource, not verified provenance for the original designs.

For historical reference rather than a ready-to-print template, National Museums Northern Ireland describes a collection of American vintage can labels from approximately 1900–1920s. The collection page is a useful point of comparison, but its description alone does not establish details about individual objects or image-use rights.
Compare a design with your can before printing
Can dimensions vary, and the examples give different kinds of fit information. One listing describes labels measuring about 4 by 9.5 inches; that measurement applies to that product, not to every can. Another says its labels are sized for standard 400 g (14 oz) cans. Measure your own container and compare its height and circumference with the file’s stated dimensions before printing.

These examples are not a quality ranking. Compare subject, file format, number of designs, dimensions, page size, print scale, and license terms to find a match for your project. A screen preview may not show the final printed colors accurately; the PaperNurture listing cautions that displayed and printed colors may vary.
Print and attach a label
- Pick the container first. Measure the can or jar’s height and circumference, then compare those measurements with the template. Leave room for the edges to meet without overlapping awkwardly.
- Check the file and page settings. The examples use JPG and PDF files. If the listing specifies a paper size or scale—as the PaperNurture set does for A4 and US Letter at 100%—use those settings and avoid “fit to page,” which can resize the design.
- Choose suitable paper. Cardstock gives a sturdier paper label; printable label paper or compatible full-sheet sticker paper adds an adhesive backing. Check your printer’s compatibility with the paper before loading it.
- Print and check the fit. Print a test copy on ordinary paper if you are uncertain about scale. Wrap it around the container and adjust only if the file’s terms and your intended use allow resizing.
- Cut and attach. Use scissors or a paper cutter. Attach plain paper with double-sided tape, tape, or another appropriate adhesive; adhesive-backed stock can be applied directly.
Check permissions and intended use
A downloadable design is not automatically free to reproduce, redistribute, or use commercially. The PaperNurture listing specifies personal and small-scale use only; do not assume those terms apply to another seller’s file. Read the particular listing’s license before using a design on products for sale or sharing the file.

Vintage appearance also does not establish that a label is safe for food contact or suitable for food packaging for sale. Treat these printables as decorative craft materials unless the maker provides clear, relevant safety and use information.

- A can, jar, or prop measured to fit the chosen design
These materials are optional choices rather than a required kit: plain paper and tape can work for a temporary display, while sticker paper can make application quicker when your printer supports it.
