To sew lace underwear, choose a pattern first, then buy stretch lace and elastic that match its requirements. Patterns differ: some use scalloped lace as the finished edge and need no elastic, while others call for fold-over, picot, or plush elastic. Stretch percentages are pattern-specific, not general rules for lace underwear. For example, Sinclair’s figures apply to its lace cut; they should not be transferred to Daisy, Gaia, or Moscow Mule.
Match lace and lining to the design
Check stretch, width, and edge
Before cutting, confirm the lace’s stretch direction and recovery against the pattern, along with the required width and whether the design needs a scalloped or otherwise finished edge. A scallop is not automatically a substitute for elastic: it works as the finished edge only when the pattern is designed for it. For example, Daisy uses scalloped lace without elastic, while Gaia and Moscow Mule specify elastic.

Plan the gusset lining
Cotton jersey lining appears in the Daisy, Gaia, and Moscow Mule listings. Follow the selected pattern’s gusset shape and assembly instructions; the lace itself is not a replacement for the lining those designs specify.
Use the edge finish the pattern calls for
Elastic type and placement vary by design. Sew with a domestic machine and test on scraps
The Daisy and Gaia listings specify domestic-machine stitching, including zigzag; Gaia also calls for straight stitch. Those cited patterns do not require a serger or coverstitch machine.
