Los Angeles County supervisors held a public hearing on September 22, 2026, on Homestead South, a proposed Santa Clarita Valley development reported to include roughly 3,600 homes. The Board’s final action is not established in the available reporting; the project should be treated as pending or appealed unless the County’s official proceedings show otherwise.
What is Homestead South?
Homestead South is a proposed residential development in the Santa Clarita Valley Planning Area, south of State Route 126 and west of Interstate 5. Realtor.com Local News describes the site as approximately 1,700 acres and places it in Supervisorial District 5, represented by Kathryn Barger, and within the Newhall Ranch Specific Plan area. These are reported project details, not confirmation that construction or occupancy has begun.
What does the proposal include?
According to Realtor.com Local News, the proposal comprises a mix of housing types, community services, amenities and open space. Its reported scale and associated changes include:

- 71,833,000 cubic yards of grading.
- Proposed realignment of Magic Mountain Parkway and Long Canyon Road.
- Impacts to 291 oak trees.
These figures are attributed to the secondary news report, which says it drew project details from County hearing materials. The underlying case documents were not available in the sources reviewed, so the figures should not be treated as independently verified County findings. The report also says full build-out could add thousands of residents; that is a projection conditional on completion, not a present-day population increase.

Why was the matter before the Board?
The report describes the Board hearing as an appeal of a Regional Planning Commission approval. It says applicant Hunsaker Associates is seeking a conditional use permit, an oak tree permit, a highway realignment permit and an administrative housing permit. The report also says the County cited a statutory exemption under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The available information does not establish the exemption’s legal effect or resolve the appeal.
Has the Board approved or rejected the project?
The final disposition is not established by the available reporting. Realtor.com Local News noted that the agenda-item notice did not show what action the Board ultimately took. The County’s Board Meeting/Agendas portal provides access to Statements of Proceedings and minutes; its page identifies September 22, 2026, as a public hearing meeting. Consult the formal proceedings for the Board’s recorded action before describing the proposal as approved, rejected or continued.
