Lucy Hale’s Los Angeles living-room nook turns an awkward corner into a compact display with a green oil painting, ceramics on an iron table and a Lalanne-style sheep footstool. Designed by Proem Studio, the arrangement shows how art and a few meaningful objects can give a small area its own character without crowding it.
What makes Lucy Hale’s nook feel personal?
Homes & Gardens describes the corner as an “elegant collection of her life,” built around three reported elements: a green oil painting, ceramics placed on an iron table and a sheep footstool in the style of François-Xavier Lalanne. The painting gives the arrangement a clear focal point; the pottery adds varied shapes and texture; the sculptural stool contributes a functional object with a distinctive silhouette. Together, they make the corner read as a deliberate display rather than leftover space. Homes & Gardens’ feature credits Proem Studio with the design.
How to decorate an awkward living-room corner
Start with one artwork that anchors the space
A painting can establish a visual center without taking up floor area. In Hale’s nook, the green oil painting is the largest reported visual element, so the smaller objects have something to relate to. Choose a work whose color or subject connects with the room, then position the display beneath or beside it rather than filling every available inch.

Build a small collection, not a matching set
Use a few objects that differ in material, scale or shape: a ceramic vessel, a found object, or a small sculptural piece. The feature recommends beginning with pottery such as vases and combining vintage and contemporary pieces. A restrained mix feels collected; a row of identical accessories can look more like a store display than a personal corner.
Choose a surface that suits the footprint
An iron table gives Hale’s ceramics a place to sit while keeping the display visually light. For a narrow or inconvenient corner, Homes & Gardens suggests a slim console with shelves, which can add storage as well as display space. Measure the available depth and preserve a comfortable path through the room before choosing furniture; the goal is to define the corner, not obstruct it.

Give one object a second job
A footstool can provide occasional seating or a place to rest your feet while also acting as sculpture. Hale’s sheep-shaped stool makes the display feel less predictable because it is both useful and visually distinctive. In a tight room, pieces that serve a practical purpose as well as an aesthetic one can make the arrangement feel considered without requiring more furniture.
Keep the nook distinct while tying it to the room
The nook’s reported objects should not be confused with the rest of Hale’s living room. Architectural Digest’s September 17, 2026 home tour describes a larger setting with a custom striped sofa, a pink sofa, an aluminum bookshelf and an antique rug. A companion story discusses a dusty-rose sofa and a black-and-white striped Kelly Wearstler fabric sofa, with a floral pillow set against the stripe. Those details offer context for the home’s broader eclecticism, but they are not identified as part of the nook.

That distinction is useful when adapting the idea: a corner can have its own small composition while still sharing a color, material or pattern with the wider room. Hale told Architectural Digest, “I want every corner of this house to make me excited.” In the home tour, the designers are identified as Ashley Drost and Marie Trohman of Proem; the renovation is described as reflecting Hale’s evolving taste.

- For a display-only corner: use one artwork, a narrow table and a small group of ceramics or keepsakes.
- For a corner that needs to work harder: favor a console with shelves or a stool that can serve as occasional seating.
- For a visually busy room: let the objects share one connecting color or material, while varying their forms.
- For a plain room: introduce contrast through a distinctive silhouette or a patterned accent, rather than adding many small decorations.
The aim is not to reproduce Hale’s exact furnishings. It is to select a few pieces with personal meaning, give them a clear focal point and leave enough open space for the corner to remain usable.
