But “best” depends on what you clear. A compact single-stage blower may suit flat walks and light snow; deeper or heavier snow and larger driveways make a two-stage model worth considering. Consider the surface before choosing a single-stage model. Bob Vila cautions that single-stage augers sit low and are unsuitable for gravel because they can pick up and throw rocks. If you clear gravel, do not rely on a single-stage recommendation without checking that the specific machine is appropriate for that surface.

Confirm the battery and charger in the box
A tool-only package may not include what you need to start clearing. Check the battery count and capacity, charger inclusion, and exact model number before buying. If you already own tools in a battery platform, confirm compatibility with the precise blower and battery generation instead of assuming brands or platforms interchange.

EGO Power+ 56V 24-inch two-stage: Bob Vila’s two-stage pick
Bob Vila named this EGO its best two-stage selection. The reviewer reported a 24-inch clearing path, using two 7.5Ah batteries, and observed throws of 50 feet or more. Those are review observations for its test conditions, not a promise of throwing distance or clearing time in every yard.

When comparing any “tested” ranking, look for the publisher’s stated procedure, conditions, and observations. Attribute results to the publisher that performed or reported them; rankings from separate guides are not automatically a shared consensus.
Before you buy
- Identify the usual snow you clear: light or fluffy, wet or heavy, and its typical depth.
- Check whether your route includes gravel or small obstructions; Bob Vila warns against single-stage augers on gravel.
- Estimate the clearing area and consider width alongside maneuverability and storage.
- Check the precise model’s weight, battery count and capacity, and whether a charger is included.
- If you own compatible-platform tools, verify battery interchangeability with the manufacturer for the exact platform and model.
- Treat runtime and throwing distance as estimates tied to the reviewer’s conditions, not guaranteed results.
Bob Vila says it used chute lubricant during its Snow Joe test to minimize clogging. A nonstick chute spray is an optional maintenance accessory, not evidence that one product brand is superior.
