Eva Chupikova’s portrait series Anna won the 2024 Minimalist Photographer of the Year award, the sixth edition’s overall title. The awards drew more than 3,400 submissions across 12 categories, from Abstract and Architecture to Portrait and Street. Who won the Minimalist Photography Awards 2024?
Eva Chupikova, from the Czech Republic, was named Minimalist Photographer of the Year for Anna. The awards organization identifies the series as the overall 2024 winner and says Chupikova received the $2,000 grand prize. She also took first place in Portrait.
The sixth annual edition received more than 3,400 submissions, according to the awards’ 2024 press release. Black & White Minimalism Magazine organized the competition.

What makes the winning images feel minimalist?
New Atlas describes minimalist photography as reducing a subject to essentials, with careful composition, clean lines, empty space, and simple geometric shapes and patterns. That is a useful way to look at the selected images, not a published judging rubric for this competition.
For a painter, the same visual questions are familiar: what can be removed without weakening the image, where does the eye rest, and how do edges and shapes guide attention? When viewing the winners, compare how each image uses negative space and geometry, whether it relies on color or monochrome, and how its subject or technique—portraiture, aerial perspective, night photography, or long exposure—shapes the result.
