A standard jewel-case CD front cover or booklet page is about 4.724 × 4.724 inches (120 × 120 mm). The back tray card is a different piece: about 5.906 × 4.646 inches (150 × 118 mm), including the panels that fold into the case spine. If you are printing artwork, use the template for your exact packaging and printer rather than relying on a generic measurement.
Standard CD jewel-case dimensions
“CD cover” can mean the square front insert, a page in the booklet, the folded card behind the disc, or an entire panel on another package style. For a standard jewel case, the front insert and individual booklet pages are square; the tray card is wider and includes spine panels.

Why published sizes differ
Not every supplier publishes exactly the same nominal measurement. Disc Makers lists a 120 × 120 mm front and 150 × 118 mm tray card; Music Media lists 120.5 × 120.5 mm and 150.5 × 118 mm for its work. Disc Makers’ 2024 article, updated in 2025, also gives rounded/alternate jewel-case figures of 4.75 × 4.75 inches for an insert cover and 5.4 × 4.625 inches for a tray card with 0.25-inch side folds. These supplier figures are not interchangeable press-ready templates. Choose the format and product first, then use that printer’s current template.
Prepare artwork for printing
Keep trim, bleed, and safe area separate
Trim size is the finished piece after cutting. Bleed is extra artwork extending past the cut edge, reducing the chance of a thin unprinted edge after trimming. Disc Makers recommends 1/8 inch (0.125 inch) of bleed on all sides for most CD artwork. Music Media specifies 3 mm bleed for its work. Keep text, logos, and other essential details within the safe-area guides; Music Media specifies at least 3 mm inside trim for important elements. Use print-resolution images
Disc Makers recommends imagery at 300 DPI or higher, and Takt’s template specifies a 300 dpi minimum. Disc Makers’ separate article distinguishes 300 ppi for images from 1200 ppi for line art. Follow the printer’s file requirements
Color mode and export requirements are supplier-specific. Takt requests CMYK or spot colors and embedded or outlined fonts; Music Media requests PDF and CMYK. Confirm current requirements with the printer and follow its supplied template for dimensions, bleed, safe areas, folds, and file setup. Takt Direct template · Music Media

Choose the measurement that matches your package
- Standard jewel case, front: start with a 120 × 120 mm square page, then check the active printer template.
- Standard jewel case, back: use the tray-card layout, which includes the folded spine panels; do not submit a square front-cover file.
- Booklet: each page is square, but the open sheet and imposition depend on the booklet layout and page count.
- Digipak or sleeve: use that packaging format’s own panel measurements and dieline, not jewel-case dimensions.
There is no single measurement that fits every item called a “CD cover.” Confirm the package format, the specific panel being printed, and the printer’s trim-and-bleed template before setting up the artwork.
