A bronze statue of Edith Cowan was unveiled on 12 June 2025 on St Georges Terrace, outside the Karrakatta Club at ANZAC House in Perth. The City of Perth identifies Cowan as the first woman elected to an Australian parliament and says her work helped secure women’s right to enter the professions.
What is the new public artwork?
The statue depicts Edith Cowan, a prominent Western Australian reformer and politician. The City of Perth says sculptors Joan Walsh-Smith OAM and Charles Smith OAM made the work.
