Choose a bohemian tapestry by checking its actual dimensions, fiber, construction, hanging method, and care instructions—not by relying on the style label. “Bohemian” describes a look; it does not establish whether a textile is printed or woven, what it is made from, where it was made, or whether its production meets an ethical standard.
What to check before buying
Use the product listing to compare the details that determine how a tapestry will look and work in your room. Broad terms such as “natural” or “handcrafted” are not substitutes for specific information.
- Dimensions: Check both width and height, and compare them with the wall or furniture you want the piece to sit above.
- Fiber: Look for named materials and whether the textile is a blend. Do not assume a style label indicates cotton, recycled fiber, or any other material.
- Construction: Distinguish a printed fabric from a woven or handwoven textile; the listing should say which it is.
- Finish and condition: Review photographs and descriptions of the edges, fringe, and overall finish.
- Hanging method: Check whether the piece has a loop, sleeve, or another attachment, and what support it needs.
- Care: Find the product-specific cleaning and pressing instructions before purchase.
- Maker and claims: Look for identifiable information about the maker and seller. Treat environmental, artisan-impact, and fair-trade statements as seller claims unless independent certification or audit evidence is provided.
What size tapestry should you buy?
Measure the available wall area before choosing a size. Retailer-listed handwoven examples illustrate why: Low Country Fair Trade describes one hanging as 18 by 28 inches and another as 16 by 28 inches. These are retailer-reported dimensions, and both could function as relatively small accents rather than large wall-covering textiles. Check the current listing dimensions and product photographs rather than judging scale from a styled room image.

Printed, woven, or handwoven: what does the listing mean?
These descriptions refer to different things. A printed design is applied to fabric; a woven design is formed through the textile’s construction; “handwoven” describes a making method. Ask the seller or check the item details if the listing does not clearly identify the construction. Do not infer a technique, origin, or fiber from the bohemian aesthetic alone.
How to hang a woven wall tapestry
Match the support to the textile’s own hanging features. A small piece with a sewn-in loop may be designed to hang from a simple hook. For a larger tapestry with a fabric sleeve across the top, the British Tapestry Group describes suspending it across its width from a horizontal wooden batten or pole inserted through the sleeve. A batten or tapestry rod is one possible support, not a universal requirement; confirm that the piece has a suitable sleeve and use a support appropriate to its size and weight.

How to assess materials and care
Fiber affects how a textile looks and how it should be handled, but generic material comparisons are not a guarantee of how an individual tapestry will perform. Check the exact fiber content and follow the seller’s care instructions. Retailer listings may describe a tapestry as recycled cotton, artisan-made, or fair trade. Those descriptions can help you decide what to investigate, but a seller’s wording alone is not independent verification or a certification record. For example, Low Country Fair Trade lists two handwoven wall hangings as recycled cotton products with cotton hanging loops; its product page also reports artisan production and, for one listing, weaving on a handloom by artisans in Panipat, Haryana, India. These are retailer-provided details, not independently verified production or impact claims. Look for specific maker information and clearly identified supporting standards if those claims matter to your purchase.
