Free heart PNG images are available from Wikimedia Commons, PurePNG, Openclipart, and Clipart.Free. Before using one, check the exact file’s dimensions and license, then confirm the downloaded image really has a transparent background. For artwork you may need to resize, consider SVG when it is offered alongside PNG.

Choose a file for the way you will use it
Match pixel dimensions to the display size
A 88 × 88 pixel image can work for a small icon, but enlarging it substantially may make it look blocky or soft. The 618 × 659 pixel Commons symbol offers more pixels, though that alone does not establish that it is suitable for every print size. Choose an image with enough resolution for its intended display, and avoid enlarging a small raster file when sharp edges matter.

Use SVG when you need flexible resizing
PNG is a raster format: its artwork is made of pixels, so enlarging it can reduce sharpness. Openclipart’s heart-15 page offers SVG as well as PNG. SVG is vector artwork and can be resized without the same pixelation limitation, making it a useful option when the design needs to scale. Check that the SVG’s style and compatibility suit your project.
Check the license on the exact image
CC0 designations appear on the listed individual Commons and Openclipart file pages, and Clipart.Free lists its example as CC0. CC0 generally allows copying, adaptation, and commercial reuse without copyright permission, subject to the applicable legal context. Do not assume every image on a site or gallery has the same terms: verify the license attached to the specific file you plan to use. PurePNG’s gallery-level description is not a substitute for checking an item’s terms.

Confirm the downloaded PNG is transparent
A file page may describe a PNG as transparent, but that wording does not verify every downloaded copy at the pixel level. Open the actual download in your design application over a contrasting background. If a solid rectangle appears behind the heart, the image may have a baked-in background rather than transparent pixels. You can also inspect the file’s transparency or alpha-channel information in an image editor.
