For a Do-Re-Mi song illustration, start with the Rodgers & Hammerstein official coloring sheet inspired by The Sound of Music. For a more hands-on music-learning visual, the rights-holder also offers printable Do-Re-Mi worksheets, flash cards, patterns, and solfège hand signs. The two resources serve different purposes: one invites coloring; the other gives learners ways to explore the note sequence.

What the Do-Re-Mi song illustrates

In The Sound of Music, Maria uses “Do-Re-Mi” to introduce singing to the children. The Library of Congress describes the scene as a solfège lesson, while the official Rodgers & Hammerstein song page sets it up as Maria’s way of teaching them to sing. Library of Congress: “The Sound of Music” · Rodgers & Hammerstein: “Do-Re-Mi”

The song connects the ascending solfège syllables with playful sound-alike words: “Doe,” “Ray,” “Me,” “Far,” “Sew,” “La,” and “Tea.” That wordplay gives an illustration two natural directions: it can evoke the song’s memorable images, or help make the sequence of notes visible. The Library of Congress discusses Hammerstein’s word-level sound matching. Library of Congress exhibition

Colored pencils, crayons, or markers are optional supplies; the page does not specify a required brand or medium. The printable is offered as a coloring activity, not a commercial product.

Printable activities for learning the notes

For an activity that goes beyond coloring, the official music-activities page offers Do-Re-Mi worksheets, eight flash cards, a pattern activity, and solfège hand signs. The printables were created with The Maternal Hobbyist, Misty Hill. The page lists materials and instructions for its activities; depending on the project, these include printable pages, cardstock, white paper, a pencil, scissors, crayons, or markers. • Use the film clip as context when learners would benefit from seeing how the song functions in the story; the official archive provides the 1965 film clip.
