Wikimedia Commons lists a free 4,500 × 3,000-pixel Indian flag PNG, but its file listing does not confirm that the image has a transparent background. Download it and check the background or alpha channel before using it. If you need artwork that scales without pixelation, the Commons page also points to an SVG version.
Where to download an Indian flag PNG
Open Wikimedia Commons’ File:Flag of India.png page to find the listed 4,500 × 3,000-pixel PNG and its download options. The page also links to File:Flag of India.svg, a vector alternative. The Ministry of Home Affairs provides the official design reference in its National Flag, Emblem and Anthem documents; that page is not established as a source for a transparent PNG.
How to check whether the PNG is transparent
A PNG file can have a background even though PNG supports transparency. The Commons listing gives the image dimensions but does not establish that this particular download has transparent pixels. After downloading it, open it in an image editor that displays transparency as a checkerboard, or place it over a contrasting background. A white rectangle that remains visible indicates the image is not transparent in that area.
Check the image against the official flag design
The Ministry of Home Affairs’ Flag Code specifies three equal-width rectangular panels: India saffron (Kesari) at the top, white in the middle and India green at the bottom. The white panel bears a navy-blue Ashoka Chakra at its centre, with 24 equally spaced spokes. The prescribed length-to-height ratio is 3:2, so a digital image can use different pixel dimensions as long as it keeps that proportion.

- Use the SVG when your workflow needs artwork that can scale to different sizes.
Pixel dimensions are not the Code’s physical flag sizes
The Flag Code lists standard dimensions for physical flags in millimetres. These measurements are not recommended PNG resolutions:
| Standard physical flag size | Specified use noted in the Code |
|---|---|
| 6300 × 4200 mm | Not stated |
| 3600 × 2400 mm | Not stated |
| 2700 × 1800 mm | Not stated |
| 1800 × 1200 mm | Not stated |
| 1350 × 900 mm | Not stated |
| 900 × 600 mm | Not stated |
| 450 × 300 mm | Aircraft on VVIP flights |
| 225 × 150 mm | Motor-cars |
| 150 × 100 mm | Table flags |
These physical dimensions and the 3:2 ratio come from the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Flag Code and related official documents. They do not tell you how many pixels a digital design must contain.

Read the file-specific reuse notice
The Commons PNG page marks the image public domain in India and cautions that its status may differ in other countries. The SVG page also identifies the flag as official insignia and warns that restrictions can apply independently of copyright. Read the notice on the individual file page and consider the rules that apply where and how you plan to use it; the Commons statements do not establish unrestricted worldwide use.
