Sometimes. Whether a Wacom tablet works without its driver depends on the exact model, computer and operating-system version. Some Wacom tablets work natively on compatible Chromebooks; selected models also offer basic driverless use on Windows. Other setups require the driver, and basic input may not include pressure sensitivity or shortcut controls.
Check your tablet and operating system first
Before connecting the tablet, identify its model and the computer or mobile device you plan to use. Then check that combination against Wacom’s current compatibility information. “Wacom tablet” is not specific enough to establish driverless support: Wacom documents it for particular product families and platforms, not every tablet or computer.

Using a Wacom tablet on a Chromebook
Wacom identifies One by Wacom, Wacom Intuos and Wacom One as product families that can work natively on certain ChromeOS versions. Its One by Wacom guidance says to connect the tablet to a compatible Chromebook and start using it without installing a driver. That is a model-specific option, not a promise that every Wacom tablet will work with every Chromebook.
Wacom’s troubleshooting guidance specifies ChromeOS 87 or later and kernel version 4.4 or later. Those are stated requirements for the Chromebook support covered by that guidance; verify the precise tablet and Chromebook combination before relying on them. Even when basic input works, Wacom says pressure, touch and ExpressKeys will not work in most cases.

For a wired tablet, check that the cable is connected properly and that the Chromebook has an available, usable USB port. Intuos Wireless uses Bluetooth, so check its Bluetooth connection. Wacom also advises checking whether USB access is blocked if a wired tablet is not detected. These checks can identify connection problems, but installing a driver will not make an unsupported device combination compatible.
Windows and macOS examples
Intuos Pro (2025)
Wacom says the Intuos Pro (2025) can be used without installing the tablet driver on Windows 10 or later. That answers whether basic driverless use is possible; it does not mean all tablet controls and settings are available. Wacom says the driver is needed for side switches, function keys and detailed settings. On macOS 13 or later, Wacom says driver installation is required. Wacom lists Android and ChromeOS as unsupported for this model.

Movink
Wacom says Movink can be used without a driver on Windows, as well as on compatible Android and ChromeOS devices. On Windows, full customization—including ExpressKey configuration—requires the driver. On macOS, Wacom says the driver is required. For Android and ChromeOS, check Wacom’s compatible-device information for the specific host device.
What to do if it does not respond
- Confirm the exact model and host system. Check the compatibility information for your tablet, device and operating-system version; do not assume support based only on the brand.
- Check the connection. For a wired model, reseat the cable and confirm the host has an available USB port and permits USB access. For Intuos Wireless, check Bluetooth.
- Decide whether the missing feature is expected. A tablet may provide basic input without its driver while omitting pressure, touch, ExpressKeys or customization.
- Install the driver when Wacom requires it or you need its controls. On supported Mac products, follow Wacom’s driver instructions and accept the macOS security permissions it requests. A driver is not a workaround for an unsupported model-and-device pairing.
Bottom line
You may be able to use a Wacom tablet without a driver, but only on supported model-and-device combinations. Chromebook support is limited to listed families and compatible setups; the Intuos Pro (2025) and Movink have different Windows and macOS requirements. Check the exact model, host and features you need before connecting.
