The “13 Free Vintage Paper Texture Packs” list is a useful record of different aged-paper looks, but it is not a verified directory of working downloads today. Its surviving 2015 reproduction names only some entries, and the original page’s indexed result advises checking each asset’s terms before commercial use. Use the examples below to choose a look, then verify the file and license at the creator’s destination before relying on it.
What the 13-pack list covers—and what it does not
The original SmashingApps title describes a collection of 13 free vintage paper texture packs, including grungy and stained-paper styles. The indexed page also cautions readers to check individual terms before commercial use (SmashingApps). A Japanese reproduction dated September 4, 2015 preserves a partial list and descriptions, not confirmation that every original link still works (DesignDevelop).
That surviving list names four examples: Raw Paper Texture Pack, Old paper textures, Paper Bag Texture Pack, and Paper texture 4. These are historical names visible in the reproduction, not verified current downloads. It describes raw and relatively simple old-paper surfaces, five crumpled brown-paper textures with deep creases, and a water-damaged, discolored treatment. The original title’s indexed extract also mentions grungy and stained paper. The complete set of 13 names and current destinations cannot be established from these sources.

Choose a paper look that suits the painting or design
Subtle aged paper
A relatively plain old-paper surface gives an image an antique cast without making prominent marks compete with the subject. It can work as a restrained background or a light finishing texture.
Creased brown paper
The Paper Bag Texture Pack example is described as five brown textures with deep crumpling. Strong folds add visible structure and a more distressed, tactile effect than a plain aged surface.

Water damage, stains, and grunge
Paper texture 4 is described as water-damaged and discolored, while the original list’s indexed extract identifies stained and grungy categories. These pronounced marks can make a composition look heavily weathered. The 2015 reproduction describes their appearance; it does not report comparative testing or recommend one treatment over another.
Check the file before building a project around it
Texture downloads are digital image assets. Paper-texture collections may include JPG or PNG files, with some offering layered PSDs or Photoshop pattern files; a separate roundup updated April 10, 2024 gives examples of those formats and different dimensions (Super Dev Resources). Those examples do not establish the specifications of the 13 historical entries.

- Format: Check whether the file is JPG, PNG, PSD, or a pattern file, and whether that format fits your editing workflow. If you need transparent areas, confirm that the specific file actually includes transparency.
- Dimensions and output size: Inspect the actual pixel dimensions. For print, compare them with the intended physical dimensions and effective resolution; “high resolution” alone does not tell you whether a file will hold up at your chosen size.
- Seamlessness: Use a seamless tile when repeating a texture across a large area. For a single background, a non-tiled image may avoid obvious repeated marks.
- Visible treatment: Look at the full-size image, not just a thumbnail, so folds, stains, or other strong marks do not overwhelm the painted subject.
The Super Dev Resources roundup describes one separate example, PixelBuddha’s “5 Seamless Old Paper Textures,” as five square JPGs in 512 px and 1024 px sizes, plus PSD and Photoshop PAT files. Those are specifications for that separate item only—not the 13-pack list.

A “free” label does not by itself grant commercial rights. The indexed SmashingApps result specifically tells readers to check terms before commercial use. Find the creator’s current license for the exact file and confirm whether your intended use is allowed, whether attribution is required, and whether any other conditions apply. Do not assume that permission described for another texture pack covers one of the historical entries.

The separate PixelBuddha item is described by Super Dev Resources as royalty-free for personal and commercial use. That statement applies to that item as reported in the 2024 roundup; it is not evidence of the licenses for the 13 title entries.

How to use the list now
- Choose the effect your project needs: restrained aged paper, deep brown creases, water damage, stains, or grunge.
- Use the names in the 2015 reproduction as leads, not as proof of a live download. Check the creator destination and confirm that the specific file is still available.
- Review the actual format, dimensions, transparency, and tile behavior before incorporating the image into a painting or layout.
- Read the current license for that exact file and use case, including any attribution requirement, before publishing or printing the result.
