The Redgrass R9 is a premium, fixed-5000K task lamp aimed at close, color-sensitive work such as miniature painting. Redgrass lists 96 dimmable LEDs, up to 1,800 lumens, and 3,700 lux at 45 cm, along with two independently rotating light bars intended to help control shadows. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independently verified test results. The key buying question is whether that combination of stated color-rendering performance and adjustable bar positioning suits your workbench enough to justify the listed €279.99 price.
What the Redgrass R9 offers
Redgrass describes the R9 as a lamp for precision work, naming miniature painting, art and craft projects, jewelry work, electronics soldering, and dental or laboratory restoration as intended applications. These are the manufacturer’s use cases, not independent professional endorsements.
The headline design feature is a pair of independently rotating light bars. Redgrass says each bar contains 48 LEDs, for 96 total, and presents the independent movement as a way to shape light and reduce shadows. This arrangement may be useful when you want to light a model from more than one direction, but the available specifications do not establish how much shadow reduction you will see at a particular desk or painting position.

These figures and descriptions come from Redgrass’s R9 product page. They are vendor claims; no independent measurement or lab review is established here. In particular, the blue-light classification and the manufacturer’s other safety or comfort descriptions should not be read as proof of a health outcome.
What the specifications mean for miniature painting
Color rendering
The R9’s published color-rendering numbers are unusually prominent in its feature list. Redgrass reports extended CRI values across R1–R15, a separate R9 value, and TM-30-20 Rf and Rg figures. When comparing lamps, check that the measurement ranges and metrics match: a single CRI figure is not directly equivalent to a set of extended CRI values or TM-30-20 results. These specifications alone do not show how the R9 compares with another lamp measured under comparable conditions.

Brightness and distance
Redgrass specifies up to 1,800 lumens and 3,700 lux at 45 cm. Lumens describe total light output; lux describes illuminance at a surface and depends on distance and setup. The stated lux value is useful only with its 45 cm measurement distance, and it does not tell you the illumination across every part of a large work area.
Positioning and color temperature
The two rotating bars provide a way to reposition the light sources independently, while the product page lists dimming and a fixed 5000K color temperature. It does not establish that you can switch between color temperatures. If you want a lamp that can change from warm to cool light, confirm that feature before buying rather than assuming dimming changes color.

Mounting, price, and purchase terms
Redgrass lists an R9 Clamp and power supply in the package, and names the R9 Bench Mount as a compatible mounting option. The product page listed the lamp at €279.99 and advertised a 30-day return window when accessed in 2026. Price, availability, returns, and eligible purchase regions can change, so check the current product page for the terms that apply where you live.
Warranty information on Redgrass’s own pages conflicts: the product page states two years, while its R9 overview page states one year. The pages do not explain whether this difference is due to region, page age, or a policy change. Confirm the warranty applicable to your location and seller before ordering.
How to decide whether the R9 fits your bench
- Consider it if you want a dedicated close-work lamp with two independently positionable bars and value the color-rendering specifications Redgrass publishes.
- Check alternatives carefully if you need adjustable color temperature, have a constrained mounting setup, or are comparing brightness. Compare illuminance at the same stated distance, beam and shadow control, articulation, mounting, and comparable color-rendering metrics.
- Weigh the premium against your needs by checking the current regional price, return window, and warranty terms rather than relying on a price or policy shown for another market.
No independently verified Amazon listing or firsthand performance test is established here. The manufacturer’s product information is the basis for the R9’s technical figures, so treat them as specifications to assess—not as independent proof that it will outperform another task lamp.
