In Lyon’s Old Town, the Musée Cinéma & Miniature brings hyper-realistic miniature art together with film objects and practical-effects displays. Its collection includes more than 50 scenes by Dan Ohlmann and over 100 miniature works by other artists, according to the museum’s current collection page.
A museum where tiny worlds meet cinema
The Musée Cinéma & Miniature is at 60 rue Saint-Jean in Vieux Lyon, a historic district of Lyon, France. The museum combines miniature scenes with objects from cinema; its English visitor page describes more than 1,000 displayed film objects across 2,000 m² of exhibition space. The miniature collection is on the museum’s top floor.
The appeal is the change of scale: façades, rooms, and settings become scenes to inspect closely, while film props and related displays show another side of the craft of making believable worlds. The museum’s collection page names Dan Ohlmann works including the ocean liner Normandie, Maxim’s, an opera rehearsal room, and a Lyon bouchon—a traditional local restaurant.

Dan Ohlmann’s hyper-realistic scenes
The museum’s current collection page describes more than 50 hyper-realistic scenes by Dan Ohlmann. These include detailed interiors and other settings that reward close looking. Gareth Branwyn’s Make: feature, published October 14, 2015, gave a different historical description: over 100 life-like scenes, almost all created by Ohlmann. The two figures come from different dates and category descriptions, so they should not be treated as a direct count comparison.

Works by other miniaturists
The current collection page also describes over 100 miniaturized works by other artists from around the world. Together, these works make the collection broader than a single artist’s practice, even though Ohlmann’s scenes remain a central attraction.
Craft beyond miniature scenes
Branwyn’s 2015 feature also describes film props and costumes, displays related to miniature and model-making crafts, and a Salle des Performances with examples such as match-head sculpture, complex origami, micro papercraft, and eggshell sculpting. These are details from that feature, not a promise that every item or display remains on view today.

How to look closely
Give the scenes time rather than treating them as objects to glance at on the way through. Branwyn wrote in 2015 that “Magnifying glasses allow visitors to study the intricate details of these exquisite creations.” That describes the feature’s visit; it does not establish that magnifiers are currently supplied. A small handheld magnifier can be an optional aid if you enjoy inspecting fine painted or constructed details, but no particular brand or model is needed.
