Adobe Spark and Creative Cloud Express are not separate products you can choose between today. Spark became Creative Cloud Express, which is now called Adobe Express. If you’re choosing an Adobe tool for a painting practice, the current decision is whether Express suits your needs for quick graphics and promotional content—or whether you need a specialist app such as Photoshop or Illustrator for detailed image editing or vector work.
How Adobe Spark became Adobe Express
- Adobe Spark: Adobe’s original quick-content service included Spark Post for social graphics, Spark Page for scrolling web stories and Spark Video for short narrated videos. Its browser hub worked with iOS apps. Adobe’s 2017 announcement describes that product family.
- Creative Cloud Express: The transitional name for Spark’s successor, with a broader set of creation tools. Adobe’s transition guidance explains how Spark’s web and mobile products moved into Express.
- Adobe Express: The current product and name. Adobe’s pricing page says Spark has been updated to Adobe Express.
Old tutorials and comparison pages may still use Spark or Creative Cloud Express, but those names describe earlier versions rather than current competing subscriptions.

What Adobe Express does now
Express is a template-driven tool for making social posts, flyers, banners, presentations, resumes, logos, short videos and webpages. For a painter, that can mean preparing an exhibition announcement, a workshop flyer, a portfolio page or social posts showing finished work. Adobe’s Express overview describes its range of creation uses.
Compared with Spark’s narrower Post, Page and Video products, Express brings more content types into one application and offers a larger template and asset library, quick actions, collaboration and generative-AI features. Availability varies by plan, device, account and feature. The broader scope can be useful if you make varied promotional content, but it also means the current interface may feel busier than the focused Spark workflow some former users preferred.
Which current Adobe option fits your work?

For painting and art promotion, Express can handle layouts, text, resizing and quick marketing pieces. It is not a substitute for the fine image control of Photoshop, the vector illustration workflow of Illustrator, or the detailed editing in Premiere. A professional application plan is worth considering only if you need those tools as well as Express; Express by itself is the lighter creation option.

What happened to Spark apps and existing projects?
Adobe discontinued the Spark Page and Spark Video iOS apps on March 17, 2025, moving their webpage and video-editing capabilities into Adobe Express. Adobe’s migration guidance covers the app shutdown and project limitations. Do not expect to install or keep using the old Spark mobile apps as supported current applications.

Find migrated files
Sign in to Adobe Express with the same Adobe account you used for Spark, then check Your stuff. Adobe says prior files were migrated automatically, but migration does not mean every project remains editable in the same way. The mobile FAQ says users cannot access the prior version of Express and that files are available in Your stuff.
Distinguish a live webpage from an editable project
Published Spark webpages generally remain accessible at their existing URLs. That does not guarantee that the underlying project is available or editable in your account. Adobe says migrated Spark Page files can remain editable, but a published link and its source project are separate things.

Check video age and project type
Spark Video projects do not have the same editing continuity as Spark Page files. Adobe says videos made in Express versions before August 2023 may no longer be accessible; some Spark Video links published before 2017 and videos published through Adobe Voice are also unsupported. If an old video matters, check the actual project and published link rather than assuming it migrated intact.

- Choose Express Free if you occasionally need a straightforward post, flyer or simple video and its included assets and limits are enough.
- Consider Express Premium if you regularly create promotional content and need premium templates or assets, resizing, expanded editing, storage or longer version history.
- Consider Creative Cloud Pro if your work also depends on Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere or other professional Adobe applications. Express alone does not provide the full specialist-app workflow.
- If you’re a former Spark user, use Express as the current destination, but check your specific files before relying on an old video or assuming a webpage’s live URL means its source is editable.
If the old Spark interface suited you better, that preference is understandable: it was more focused. It does not make Spark a current alternative. For a fresh comparison, compare Adobe Express with currently available tools such as Canva rather than treating Spark as a separate product.
