Adobe Firefly Video is Adobe’s short-form video model for generating footage from text prompts or images. Adobe previewed it in September 2024, announced limited public beta in October 2024 and public beta in February 2025, then announced general availability on April 24, 2025. Adobe describes it as commercially safe and trained on content it had permission to use; that is Adobe’s positioning, not a guarantee about any particular output or use.
What is Adobe Firefly Video?
Firefly Video Model is Adobe’s text-to-video and image-to-video model. Adobe announced it for use through the Firefly app and described related video workflows in Premiere Pro. It can help users create short footage, animate still images or illustrations, generate B-roll, and explore camera angles, motion, and zoom.
These capabilities and Adobe’s descriptions of the model are based on its announcements, not independent performance tests. “Commercially available” refers to Adobe’s April 2025 general availability announcement for the Video Model; it should not be confused with Adobe’s September 2023 announcement about commercial availability of earlier Firefly image, text-effect, and vector capabilities.

When did Firefly Video leave preview?
Adobe rolled out the Video Model in distinct stages. The September 2024 announcement was a preview, not general availability.

Generate video from text or images
Adobe described generating clips from text prompts or reference images. Image-to-video can bring still images or illustrations to life, while text-to-video can create footage from a written description.

Guide camera movement and composition
Adobe’s announcements describe camera controls such as angle, motion, and zoom. These controls can help guide a shot toward a desired look, but do not guarantee an exact result.
Create B-roll and atmospheric material
Adobe highlighted B-roll generation for filling gaps in a timeline, as well as atmospheric elements and motion design. These uses make the model relevant to editing and creative ideation, rather than a substitute for every part of a production workflow.
Generate Video and Generative Extend are different
Adobe’s resolution statements refer to different features and should not be combined into one claim:

Is Firefly Video commercially available and safe to use commercially?
Adobe announced general availability for the Firefly Video Model on April 24, 2025. Adobe also described the model as designed to be commercially safe and trained on content it had permission to use, not Adobe customer content. In February 2025, Adobe called it “IP-friendly and commercially safe.” These statements describe Adobe’s model and training approach; they are not a universal legal guarantee for every generated result.
Before using a result commercially, consider the rights in any uploaded image or other reference, the content of the prompt, and how the output will be used. Adobe’s claims do not resolve every question about a specific input, output, or use case.

- Choose a workflow. Use Generate Video in Firefly for text-to-video or image-to-video, or explore the relevant video workflow in Premiere Pro.
- Describe the shot or provide an image. A text prompt can describe footage; a reference image can guide image-to-video generation.
- Set the visual direction. Where the workflow offers them, use camera controls such as angle, motion, or zoom to guide the result.
- Review the output. Check that the clip suits your intended edit and that you have the rights needed for any input material and final use.
- Verify current access and settings. The research cited here does not establish current plans, prices, credits, or regional availability. Check Adobe’s current product information and your account before planning a project.
What Adobe’s asset figures mean
Adobe reported more than 12 billion Firefly-generated images globally in its September 2024 announcement, over 18 billion Firefly assets in its February 2025 announcement, and more than 22 billion assets worldwide in its April 2025 blog. These are Firefly-wide figures, not counts of videos generated by the Firefly Video Model.
