Adobe announced the Firefly app and Firefly Video Model public beta on February 12, 2025. Firefly video is now a multimodel workflow: users can select models and generate clips from text or images, with controls and availability depending on the selected model, account, and location.
The February 2025 launch is historical, not the status of the whole current app. Adobe said the Firefly Video Model became generally available in April 2025; current help documentation describes expanded generation, guidance, and editing workflows.

What Firefly video can do now
Text-to-video
Choose a video model, enter a prompt, and set the available output and shot options. Adobe documents controls for content, mood, visual style, framing, shot size, camera angle and movement, as well as style presets and a seed setting. Settings vary by model, so the controls available in one workflow may not appear in another.

Firefly can animate a still image. Users can provide a first frame and, optionally, a last frame to guide the clip. These images act as guidance points, not a guarantee of exact frame-by-frame animation. Specifying keyframes can also limit which style, camera, or motion controls remain available.
Camera and motion guidance
Depending on the selected model and setup, users can control camera settings or provide a motion-reference video to guide movements such as pans, zooms, tilts, and paths. Adobe notes that using a motion reference can disable some manual camera controls.

Examples of useful results
Adobe’s FAQ suggests uses including smoke, water, or lens-flare overlays; animating an image; 2D, 3D, or claymation-style animation; graphics and text videos; and B-roll of plants, animals, or landscapes. These are examples, not promises of precise results. Make sure you have rights to uploaded images.

Models, availability, and commercial use
Firefly is a model-selection surface as well as a set of Adobe models. Adobe’s list of partner models and their settings can change, and access can vary by location, user type, plan, and regulatory requirements. Do not assume that every Firefly generation uses Adobe’s own model or that a model available in Firefly is available in Premiere.

Adobe presents Firefly Video as commercially safe and describes its own Firefly models as trained on licensed and public-domain content, not customer content. These are Adobe’s claims, not a universal legal guarantee. Adobe’s product-description terms distinguish qualifying Firefly tools from beta or trial capabilities and from features powered by models not trained by Adobe. Third-party models may have different terms. Users remain responsible for rights in prompts and uploaded source material.
Before commercial use, check the feature’s current status and the applicable terms. See Adobe’s Firefly FAQ and product descriptions.

Prices, taxes, billing terms, promotions, and allowances vary and can change. “Unlimited” in the table applies specifically to the Firefly Video Model in Generate Video as stated on Adobe’s page; do not assume it applies to other models or features. Check Adobe’s current plan page for your region and confirm the cost of the model and resolution you intend to use.
Limitations to expect
Generative video is best treated as material for an edit, not as a reliable way to create a finished production in one pass. A clip can look convincing in a still frame but show unstable motion or continuity as it plays. Keyframes and references guide generation but do not guarantee precise control.
- Characters, objects, or details may change over time.
- Complex motion and interactions may not follow the prompt exactly.
- Generated text, logos, and exact product details may be unreliable.
- Choosing a model or adding reference material may change which controls are available.
- Repeated generations use plan capacity, and model or resolution can affect credit consumption.
When Firefly is a good fit
- You want to develop short clips, B-roll, overlays, or visual concepts.
- You want to guide a clip with an image, keyframes, or camera and motion settings.
- You use Adobe tools and value an available handoff to the Firefly editor or Premiere.
- You have checked the chosen model’s access, credit use, and terms for your project.
