Affinity Suite 2.6.0 was a genuine Serif Affinity V2 release, but it was not one application called “Affinity Suite.” It referred to coordinated updates for three separate programs: Affinity Photo 2.6.0, Affinity Designer 2.6.0, and Affinity Publisher 2.6.0. The release arrived in the February 2025 period, with platform-specific rollout dates varying.
Its most significant addition was in Affinity Photo: locally processed machine-learning tools called Object Selection Tool and Select Subject. As of 2026, however, version 2.6.0 is a legacy V2 release. New users should distinguish it from the newer all-in-one Affinity product introduced by Canva and described as free for everyone.
What “Affinity Suite 2.6.0” actually means
Affinity V2 was organized as three standalone applications:

They could be used together, particularly through Publisher’s StudioLink workflow, which provides access to Photo- and Designer-style tools inside Publisher when the relevant applications are installed. Nevertheless, each product had its own installer, version number, feature set, and compatibility considerations.
That distinction matters when downloading an installer or troubleshooting a feature. “Affinity Suite 2.6.0” is useful shorthand for the coordinated release line—not the name of a single executable.
Affinity Photo 2.6.0: the headline change
Affinity Photo 2.6.0 introduced the first machine-learning-assisted selection features in the V2 product line:
- Object Selection Tool, which identifies recognizable objects and creates a selection around them.
- Select Subject, which attempts to isolate the main subject of an image automatically.
These tools are intended to speed up the first stage of a selection. They do not guarantee a finished production-quality mask. Hair, fur, foliage, glass, reflections, shadows, low-contrast subjects, overlapping objects, and similar-color backgrounds can still require careful manual refinement with selections, masks, channels, the Pen Tool, or other conventional techniques.

According to Serif’s official documentation, the models are downloaded separately, are pretrained, and process images on the device. User images are not sent away for model training. This should not be expanded into a blanket claim that every Affinity or Canva feature is offline; it specifically describes these Photo selection models.
Hardware restrictions
The Photo 2.6 machine-learning features are not available on:

- iPads using an A-series chip.
They are intended for compatible Apple silicon Macs, but Affinity Photo must run natively rather than through Rosetta. Serif’s troubleshooting guidance specifically recommends checking the application’s Open With Rosetta setting if the tools do not appear.
When the Object Selection Tool is missing
If Photo has been updated but the new tools are not visible, work through this checklist:

- Open the toolbar customization controls and add Object Selection Tool manually. Serif notes that it may not be added automatically.
- Check the processor and device restrictions above.
- On an Apple silicon Mac, disable Open With Rosetta.
- Download the required machine-learning model from the relevant settings area.
- If the feature is unstable, use a later 2.6.x maintenance release rather than the original 2.6.0 build.
For difficult images, treat the automated result as a starting selection. Add and subtract areas, refine edges, and apply the result to a mask so that the original pixels remain recoverable.
Affinity Designer 2.6.0
Designer was updated as part of the coordinated 2.6 release. Its role remained vector illustration and design: curves and nodes, shapes, typography, logos, interfaces, and other scalable artwork.
The available official evidence is clearer about Designer’s archived 2.6.0 installers than about a complete feature-by-feature changelog. It is therefore safer not to attribute an unverified list of new Designer tools to this exact build. Existing users should also distinguish 2.6.0 from later maintenance releases such as 2.6.2, 2.6.3, and 2.6.4.
The official Windows Designer archive lists 2.6.0 packages for both x64 and ARM64 systems, including separate MSIX and MSI/EXE installer formats.

Affinity Publisher 2.6.0
Publisher was the page-layout component of the release. Contemporary coverage described page-management improvements alongside Photo’s machine-learning additions and more modest Designer changes. The precise scope of every Publisher 2.6.0 change should not be confused with later 2.6.x fixes.
For publishing work, evaluate the update through the complete production workflow rather than by its headline feature list. Check:
- Page and spread management, including insertion, ordering, and imported pages.
- Master pages, linked text frames, typography, and OpenType controls.
- Tables, footnotes, indexes, and tables of contents where applicable.
- Linked images and other placed resources.
- Fonts, language and spelling settings, preflight, and PDF export.
- StudioLink transitions between layout, vector, and photo-editing tools.
Reports in Affinity’s forums describe bugs and export problems during the 2.6.x development cycle, but community reports are not universal failure statements or a substitute for a finalized changelog. Test important publications and exported PDFs before moving a production system over.
How to obtain Affinity 2.6.0
Windows
Serif’s official update archives list previous V2 releases. Use the application-specific archive rather than an unofficial download site:
Choose the package that matches the Windows installation and processor architecture. The Designer archive shows separate x64 and ARM64 downloads, as well as different MSIX and MSI/EXE packages. The listed file sizes are installer sizes, not the final installed footprint; for example, the archived Designer x64 packages are approximately 656.54 MB for MSIX and 630.59 MB for MSI/EXE.
macOS and iPad
The evidence available for this legacy release does not establish that every platform still exposes the exact original 2.6.0 build through its current storefront. An official forum announcement confirms the iPad 2.6.0/2.6.1 update as a normal V2 app update and notes that Apple’s rollout could take up to 24 hours in some cases.

If an official Apple storefront no longer offers the exact historical build, do not substitute a third-party mirror. Archived creative-software installers can be modified or bundled with unwanted software. Use first-party sources only, and preserve an installer you have verified if historical reproducibility is important.

Machine-learning selection can be inaccurate or unstable
Users reported crashes and discrepancies between selection previews and results in forum discussions about the new selection features. These are attributed community reports, not proof that every installation is affected. If Photo crashes or produces unreliable selections:

- Save and work from a copy of the document.
- Install the newest available 2.6.x maintenance build.
- Use manual selection and masking for critical work.
- Try renderer changes only as a troubleshooting experiment, not as a guaranteed fix.
- Record the device, operating system, GPU, document, and steps if reporting the problem.
Relevant user reports include discussions of 2.6 crashes and new selection-tool behavior.
Export failures in Designer or Publisher
A community troubleshooting thread reported an export crash associated with document text and spelling-language settings. Treat that as a reported workaround, not an official universal diagnosis. For an export failure, duplicate the document, update to a later 2.6.x build, inspect text-frame and spelling settings, and export a reduced copy to isolate the problematic object. Keep the original editable file before attempting any rollback.
Downgrading to 2.5.x
Community support warns that documents saved in 2.6.0 may not open in 2.5.7. That is a practical compatibility warning, not a guarantee that every file will fail. Before downgrading:
- Keep the original document untouched.
- Save a separate test copy in 2.6.
- Preserve exported PDFs or other delivery files.
- Test the copy in the older version before committing to a rollback.
Do not assume that a V2 document saved by a newer build is safely reversible to every earlier V2 build.

Should you install 2.6.0?

If you specifically need version 2.6.0 for an old workflow, choose the exact application and platform package you require. If you simply want the best current Affinity starting point, 2.6.0 is not the default recommendation.
Affinity V2 versus the newer Affinity product
Do not confuse legacy Affinity V2 with the later product introduced by Canva and Affinity. V2 separated Photo, Designer, and Publisher into three applications. The newer Affinity product combines photo editing, vector design, and page-layout tools in one application and is described in the company’s official announcement as free for everyone.
The same announcement says Canva AI tools inside the newer Affinity product are available to users with a Canva Premium account. That account qualification applies to those Canva AI features; it should not be used to rewrite the licensing or feature model of the older V2 applications.
The two generations may differ in application structure, UI, licensing, account expectations, and file behavior. A reader seeking a historically stable V2 workflow has a legitimate reason to locate 2.6.0, while a new user should evaluate the current product on its own terms.
Verdict
Affinity 2.6.0 was a real and useful V2 release, especially for compatible Photo users who wanted locally processed machine-learning selection assistance. It was not a single standalone “Affinity Suite” program: it was a coordinated release for Photo, Designer, and Publisher. For legacy compatibility, use Serif’s official archives and prefer the latest suitable 2.6.x maintenance build over the original 2.6.0 where possible. For a new installation in 2026, compare it with the newer all-in-one Affinity product before committing to the old V2 software.
