What ALUSION doors are
The ALUSION name identifies a configurable range of aluminium-framed doors for furniture and cabinetry. The 19 February 2009 product announcement calls it an expanded and relaunched Häfele aluminium frame door range, covering several door movements and drawer fronts rather than one standard door model. That distinction matters when planning a kitchen, wardrobe, display cabinet or other joinery: the frame and insert are selected as a package, while the opening method and hardware are specified for each individual door.

These are historical product descriptions, not evidence that every combination is still manufactured or stocked in Australia. Read the catalogue as configuration guidance and obtain a current quotation or specification from Häfele Australia before committing to a design. Which door formats are listed?
ALUSION is not limited to a single hinged cabinet door. The 2009 description names four format groups. Use the table as a starting point for a schedule, then ask Häfele which combinations, sizes and hardware sets remain orderable.

The source also mentions standard hinges and a push function. “Push” should be treated as a hardware choice, not as proof that every door can be opened by touch alone; confirm the exact catch, spring, drilling and load requirements in the current hardware schedule.

The 2009 listing says the range offered five profile types. It gives these brushed-aluminium frame widths and forms:
- 23 mm frame width.
- 28 mm frame width.
- 38 mm curved profile.
- 38 mm flat profile.
- 45 mm with a lip.
The wording describes the 38 mm curved and flat versions separately and identifies the 45 mm option by its lip. Do not infer a complete cross-section drawing, visible face dimension, rebate or insert depth from the width alone. Those dimensions affect the visual proportion of a painted run of cabinetry, but the catalogue material available here does not establish tolerances, corner construction, maximum panel sizes or the exact finish code for each profile.

When comparing profiles, request a section drawing or physical sample. Check how the profile meets adjacent painted panels, whether the lip changes the reveal, how corners are joined, and whether the selected insert sits flush or recessed. A narrow frame can leave more of the insert visible; a wider or lipped frame can create a stronger border. Those are design consequences to evaluate on a sample, not performance claims about one profile being stronger or better.
Insert materials: glass, mirror and Perspex
ALUSION descriptions list three insert material categories:

- Toughened glass: a glass option for transparent, translucent or visually open cabinetry. Confirm thickness, tint, edge treatment, processing and whether the supplied glass is cut to the final frame size.
- Mirror: a reflective insert that can increase perceived depth in wardrobes, display units or furniture. Confirm mirror backing, edge protection, cleaning guidance and how the mirror is retained during transport and installation.
- Perspex: a plastic sheet option that may suit applications where a lighter or less fragile insert is preferred. Confirm the exact grade, colour or transparency, thickness, scratch-care instructions and allowable cleaning products.
None of the cited material establishes impact ratings, fire classifications, acoustic performance, UV stability, weight limits or compliance certificates for a particular insert. Treat those as project-specific questions. If the door is near heat, moisture, children, public access or frequent cleaning, state that environment when requesting the specification so the supplier can nominate a suitable insert and fixing method.
Hinges, handles and push operation
The range can be ordered with standard hinges or a push function, and the 2009 description says Häfele hardware could be premounted at a requested location. Premounting can reduce site drilling and helps keep repeated handle or hinge positions consistent across a run, but it makes the approved drawing especially important.

Before releasing a production order, mark the hinge side, handle centreline, push-catch location and any interference with shelves or neighbouring doors. Ask whether the hardware is supplied with the door, packed separately or installed by Häfele, and whether the requested location is measured from an outside edge, a profile centreline or a cabinet datum. Also confirm which side of a bi-fold or flap assembly receives the operating hardware. These details prevent a correctly sized front from arriving with a layout that does not suit the cabinet carcass.

The 2020 catalogue presents a repeatable selection sequence. Use it to prepare a schedule that Häfele can check rather than sending only an opening width and a photograph.

- Choose the profile. Nominate the 23 mm, 28 mm, 38 mm curved, 38 mm flat or 45 mm lipped option listed in the product description, subject to current confirmation.
- Provide finished dimensions and configuration. Give width, height, quantity, handing, panel split where relevant, and whether the front is inset, overlay or part of a drawer system. Do not assume a catalogue width is a maximum allowable size.
- Select the insert. Specify toughened glass, mirror or Perspex, along with colour, transparency, tint or other finish requirements that the current range supports.
- Set hinge and handle positions. Supply a dimensioned drawing showing hinge side, handle or pull position, and push-function location if applicable.
- State the quantity and repetition. Group identical doors together, but list every handed or dimensionally different front separately.
- Request the supply format. Ask whether the doors can be supplied ready for installation with associated hardware, as the catalogue states, and clarify what “ready” includes for your order.
- Obtain written current confirmation. Have Häfele verify the selected profile, insert, hardware, drawings, price, production timing and delivery scope before fabrication of the surrounding cabinetry.
A dimensioned schedule is safer than relying on a generic phrase such as “aluminium cabinet door.” Include a unique reference for each opening, a front elevation, section detail, material notation and the finished paint colour or adjacent substrate so the joiner, painter and installer are working from the same information.
What “ready for installation” should mean on your quotation
The catalogue’s exact statement is: “Doors can be supplied ready for installation.” That describes a supply model, not a universal promise that every current Australian order arrives fully assembled, drilled and fitted. Ask the supplier to define the term in writing for your project.

Useful questions include whether frames are assembled, whether inserts are installed, which hinges or catches are included, whether mounting plates are supplied, and whether handles are excluded. Confirm packaging, protection for mirror or glass, allowable site storage conditions and responsibility for checking dimensions before installation. If the doors are being sent to a separate cabinetmaker, ensure that the hardware instructions and drilling templates travel with the correct door references.

Request a current product number, profile drawing, insert specification, approved size range, hardware schedule, finish sample, quotation validity and estimated dispatch date. If the project is time-critical, ask for an alternative within the same range before detailing the cabinet, because substituting a different profile can change reveals and clearances.
Planning ALUSION fronts alongside painted cabinetry
Although ALUSION is a manufactured door system, it often sits next to painted MDF, timber or laminate panels. Coordinate the interfaces early. A paint colour that matches the room may not match the aluminium finish, so evaluate a real frame sample beside the proposed paint chip under the lighting used in the room. Check whether the chosen frame width leaves the same visual reveal as adjacent painted doors and whether a lipped profile creates a shadow line that needs to continue around the elevation.

Protect inserts during sanding, priming and spray work. Keep glass, mirror and Perspex masked or separately packaged until dusty trades are finished, and ask the supplier for the approved cleaning method before removing protective films. Do not paint over the aluminium profile or insert unless the current manufacturer’s written instructions specifically allow it; the cited documents do not establish a paint system for ALUSION frames.
