  • Lattice View by Karen Wisseman, a garden-inspired quilt.
  • Dresden Daisies by Textile Outpost, a floral quilt made with assorted prints.
  • Berries & Bunnies by Jerome Thomas, a wool-appliqué wall hanging with garden motifs.
  • Scrubs by registered nurse Roberta Farrar, a quilt honoring healthcare workers.
  • Sea & Sky, a large square quilt.
  • GEMtones 2024/2025 Block of the Month by Lori J. Miller, with the Topaz blocks for this installment in the multi-issue sequence.

The magazine describes its audience as quilters of all skill levels. Its editors say the staff has more than 70 years of quilting experience and works with editors, copy editors, quilt testers, and technical editors to check patterns and articles.

Which project fits your time, technique, and materials?

Project Finished size Technique or materials Best fit
Berries & Bunnies Not stated in the available project details Wool appliqué; small pieces of felted wool, fusible web and interfacing, freezer paper, and embroidery supplies A seasonal wall hanging and a project for quilters interested in wool appliqué
Dresden Daisies 60½ × 72½ inches Floral prints, including Moda Fabrics’ Love Letter and Ruby Star Society’s Brushed collections A medium-size floral quilt
Scrubs 66½ × 92½ inches Fusible appliqué; 15 fat eighths, assorted solids, sashing, border and binding fabrics, fusible web, backing, and batting A larger quilt with a healthcare-worker theme; its instructions are by registered nurse Roberta Farrar
Sea & Sky 84½ inches square Andover Fabrics’ Thousand Steps collection; backing and batting are needed for a quilt of this scale A substantial square quilt
GEMtones Topaz blocks Not stated in the available project details A block-of-the-month installment; the series spans multiple issues Quilters who want to follow a structured, multi-issue project

The issue also includes projects that specify AccuQuilt GO! quarter-square triangle, strip-cutter, and half-square triangle dies. Check the individual pattern’s cutting instructions before buying a die: the issue’s project list does not establish that every listed die is required for every quilt.

What supplies should you expect to need?

Requirements depend on the selected pattern, but the project materials point to distinct supply groups:

  • For wool appliqué: felted wool, fusible web, fusible interfacing, freezer paper, and embroidery supplies are listed for Berries & Bunnies.
  • For a larger pieced or appliqué quilt: plan for the specified fabric cuts plus backing and batting. Scrubs, for example, calls for 15 fat eighths along with solids and separate sashing, border, and binding fabrics.
  • For floral prints: Dresden Daisies names Moda Fabrics’ Love Letter and Ruby Star Society’s Brushed collections; confirm the pattern’s quantities and color requirements before substituting.
  • For cutting: some patterns specify AccuQuilt GO! dies. A rotary cutter and rulers may suit other cutting instructions, but follow the tools stated in the particular pattern.

These are project-specific materials, not one combined shopping list for the whole issue. Use the selected pattern’s complete supply list for quantities and construction details.

What is the GEMtones Topaz installment?

GEMtones 2024/2025 is a block-of-the-month design by Lori J. Miller that unfolds across multiple issues. The April 2025 issue supplies its Topaz blocks, rather than presenting the entire series as a single issue’s complete project. It is therefore a better choice for readers who want to build a quilt over time than for someone seeking one self-contained pattern.
